Walked outside to take my trash out and WOW four pheasants in my front yard having breakfast. Watched them for a short time. Glad they found breakfast. 😂 Doesn’t take much to excite me. I wonder where they live. I am not near any empty pheasant hiding fields.

Love all things nature, too.

If they are of the Ring-Necked variety, they regularly roost in trees. :)

In the spring, I get turkeys in my yard. Big ones. I only see them in the spring. After the turkeys, I'm up to my neck in rabbits, they're everywhere. And then like the turkeys, I don't see them anymore. But then, I get these tiny tree frogs. It amazes me to see their tiny fingers. Then , they're gone, too. On stage, now, comes my squirrels, they're running around. In the fall, I get big black birds. They congregate on my lawn, eating something. Then they' re gone. The deer are in and out most of the year, but as it gets colder they start making their rounds. At about the same time each day, they come from the same direction, munch on some grass, and go off in the same direction.
I really enjoy seeing those critters, but I always wonder where they go, when their time in my yard is up.

Well, this is embarrassing.

The birds I saw don’t look like the picture Aunt Marg posted. Hmm, so I googled when I got home from doctor. In my defense, I know nothing, apparently, about game birds. They were quail-brown cute little black topknot looking things on their heads.

But, hey, they were still having breakfast, still really cute, still don't know how they came to be in my yard. 🥰

When I was a little kid, we would see quail -- usually a big one -- I presume the mama quail -- with the big one leading a parade of babies behind it. I used to get very excited to see them.

Here I get roadrunners. I love to watch them doing their roadrunning. I have a big fat one who seems to live part-time in my yard.

I would LOVE to see a real roadrunner. Ive not even seen one in a zoo.

The man next door to us raised them for hunting. It was a big thing, even President Eisenhower came to join the hunt. My dad refused as he would not touch a gun. Years before when he and my mom were first married they had a dog they loved. They were walking him one night in the city and my dad unleashed him as he would walk right alongside him. However, something caught his eye and he bolted into the street. Oncoming traffic could not stop in time and he was critically injured, so my father went up to the apartment, got his pistol and put the dog out of his misery. He then sat on the curb sobbing and a cop came along. Dad gave him the gun and never touched another. But he did eat the pheasants. He also ate venison.

We get some pheasants in our rural area....they stay mostly near the farmlands, but we occasionally get a couple wandering in our forest. They are beautiful birds. We get some turkeys every year, and it's quite a sight to see a big male "strutting" during mating season.

In an area about 5 minutes from here there are peacocks that wander around loose. They have been there for decades.
