Unbelievably, 2 days ago, the UN elected Iran's Islamic Regime as one of two vice chairs of the Social Development. Social Development!

Representing Iran, Abbas Tajik will serve with Azerbaijan’s Shahriyar Hajiyev as vice chairs, and socialist-leaning Stefano Guerra of Portugal was named chair.

The announcement was buried in the small, second-to-last paragraph of a very lengthy announcement on the UNCSD website.

To preface; there were no objections. So, apparently, every member of the UN has forgotten that, throughout it's entire existence, that tactic has never worked.

Cancelled.

After receiving over 100,000 signatures and immediate pressure from world leaders, the UN cancelled at least one of the Iranian co-chair appointments, and all the awards and accolades he'd have been given. (I've not heard yet about the other.)

The UN also called on Swiss police to arrest both of the Islamic Republic representatives - so, both co-chairs they selected - on charges of crimes against humanity.

This whole thing is totally bizarre.
