On line purchasing.....

i do some online shopping, but not one to expect something from amazon about every single day. i don't understand paying for a service to assure you get your purchases tomorrow (at a price higher than you could find) and then not really need/use that purchase for days/weeks.

i used Shop-rite's online shopping about 3 years ago while recuperating from a badly broken arm... had about 6 months when i wasn't allowed to drive. no complaints but prefer doing my own grocery shopping.

it's about time for an order from W-mart... for cat litter. i have a w-art not much more than a healthy walk away, so distance is not a factor. the brand i buy is rarely on sale, so that's not it. litter comes in those big plastic jugs and never goes bad... but heavy! i won't have to haul jugs off shelves and into card. won't have to lift a jog to scan. won't have to lift out of cart and into car. won't have to move from car to house.

With my lungs being the way they have been for the past few months I'm thankful for delivery.
 
how about people who shop, shop, shop till they hit that magic amount for no shipping. they've spent twice as much for something they wanted and didn't necessarily NEED!
 
we took students to the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Robbinsville, NJ. Massive! During the Q&A, one of the boys asked... what happens of a delivery truck is in a wreck? while the driver is being attended to, the entire order in the damage truck is duplicated and sent out on it's way. they go thru whatever happened to original truck load "later"!
 
Prime member for over a decade. I don't look for the lowest price all the time. We're fussy about brands and if the stores insist upon carrying their "house brands" - most of which I don't like - then I'll order exactly what I want from on-line.

Amazon doesn't carry everything so probably 10% of our purchases are direct from a mfg website or retail store doing on-line business. Of our Amazon purchases probably 40-45% are Marketplace which are NOT Amazon items, but sold through Amazon.

Since the lockdown a good chunk of our purchases have been e-books for the Kindle. But I mostly buy from discounted recommendations by BookBub. It's a great way to find new authors and try their works without spending a lot. I probably delete (permanently) about 85% of those new authors, but I've found some that I like very much, that I never would have found in a retail bookstore.

Some authors, like Jodi Taylor and her funny St. Mary's series, and many self-published new authors, publish directly to e-book and never offer hard copy editions.

I used to order from catalogs a lot, too. Schlepping around to five different stores on a precious weekend (back when I was working) was NOT FUN. I love to drive and I adore my car, but going from parking lot to parking lot is not my idea of how I want to spend one-seventh of every week.

exactly! a lot of things online at walmart.com is coming from "Joe's". a few weeks ago, went shopping for parchment paper baking sheets... after they were rated on America's Test Kitchen. the winner was something like $12 for 100 sheets but $5-6 for shipping. at wmart, someone had 100 sheets for $9.99. NO shipping but took 4-5 days to get to me... fine with me.

hey, before internet... order from a catalog... everything said expect a wait of something like 8-10 WEEKS for delivery. by the time you got an item, you had almost forgot even ordering it.
 
I haven't had any problems buying anything online. Of course, you need to avoid the obvious pitfalls. Like, everybody is selling a doohickey for $50, and one guy is selling it for $9, you can kiss your $9 goodbye. As long as you stay with reputable firms, you should be perfectly served.

I was shocked. I ordered replacement blades for my fabric cutter from Wish. They were really cheap compared to Walmart. I was warned about Wish.
Slow delivery, but they are excellent. I was surprised. They were shipped from England.
I also bought a HDMI cable that is supposed to stream my phone to my television set.
But I found out that that feature is not supported by my television.
It's supposed to be a smart T.V. but it's only reasonably intelligent.
 
Most everything we have bought for Christmas, for each other, has been on Amazon.

I was actually use to online-buying, being that I did it when I was a Materials Coordinator/Jr. Buyer at jobs.
 
We've been Prime members for years, and it really makes the difference when buying something on Amazon as to a delivery price.. but you must always ensure that the item is ''prime'' and available for free delivery not everything is...
That said just because we get free shipping doesn't mean I don't shop around for what I want..either better quality or cheaper .. for example this morning I ordered a new white wooden Venetian blind . I researched and found that although Amazon would be cheaper..the quality would be better buying from a designated Blind store , even though their prices are higher and delivery charge is extra.. but that's who I chose to

I joined Prime for some TV that we wanted to see. The free shipping came as a bonus. There were some things that just aren’t available locally. I like it enough that I got a one year subscription.

The lineups at Costco look long, they move quickly. I may not be saying that once the snow arrives.

You have to pay shipping too plus tax.
 
I get quite a lot through Amazon and I do thorough searches of their pages of what I'm looking for. If I don't find a price I'm willing to pay I don't buy anything. I should start looking at other sources, too.

A person can have groceries delivered around here from most local grocery stores, but I have a couple of these so close to me that it wouldn't be worth it. Also, at least around here, it seems that most people I encountered in these grocery stores seem to be following the mask and social distancing guidelines pretty well, as well as being unusually polite.

I do the curbside pickup for almost everything. If I can't do that, I'll order from Amazon or another online retailer.
 
I buy books on Amazon every couple months because our local independent bookstore has been closed since March Once in awhile,they will ask me to write a review of a book I've purchased.I've done it a couple of times.
 
When I shop online I always buy enough to get free shipping. I just ordered some coffee & creamer but needed to spend just under $4 to get free shipping so I bought a bottle of Dawn for $4+. It's not like I'm buying something I won't use. Makes perfect sense to me.
