Here in the Province on Ontario about 50 percent of our electricity is produced by water falls and rivers, which spin turbines which produce power. The second most common source of electrical power is nuclear , followed by solar and wind power. Ontario stopped burning coal to produce electrical power about a decade ago. We have a billing system that has lower prices for "off peak hours " . During our winter season, from November the first to April 30th, the lowest priced hours are...7 PM to 7 AM, all day on weekends and holidays. Mid peak cost is 11 AM to 5PM, week days, and top peak costs are 7AM to 11AM , and 5PM to 7PM week days. So as you can see if you do your washing of clothes in the evening, it will cost you less. If you do it on the weekend it will cost you less, too. We ask our ( 2 ) tenants to do their laundry on Saturday or Sunday to cut down on the costs of electrical power. We have installed automatic entrance lights in the access hallways to the tenant units in our house, which activate when it senses movement then shuts off after 5 minutes, and we control the heat in the entire house with a central thermostat, set for 21 Celsius year round, gas furnace in the winter and central air conditioning in the summer.
