Once again my power bill is low

I live in a small apartment in northern Canada. Heat is paid by the landlord.

In the summer, my electric bill is about CAD 40 for 2 months. No air conditioner.

But in the winter it's about CAD 120. I have the lights on for most of the day, and I run a humidifier 24/7. I run the fans more in winter (in summer I open the windows instead). I'm not sure what else....

Heating an 1,850 sq/ft house, last month the bill was $325, this month it dropped to $250. A few years ago we replaced all the windows, reducing the heating/cooling costs as well as the outside noise. Summer bills are about half of winter ones.

Here in the Province on Ontario about 50 percent of our electricity is produced by water falls and rivers, which spin turbines which produce power. The second most common source of electrical power is nuclear , followed by solar and wind power. Ontario stopped burning coal to produce electrical power about a decade ago. We have a billing system that has lower prices for "off peak hours " . During our winter season, from November the first to April 30th, the lowest priced hours are...7 PM to 7 AM, all day on weekends and holidays. Mid peak cost is 11 AM to 5PM, week days, and top peak costs are 7AM to 11AM , and 5PM to 7PM week days. So as you can see if you do your washing of clothes in the evening, it will cost you less. If you do it on the weekend it will cost you less, too. We ask our ( 2 ) tenants to do their laundry on Saturday or Sunday to cut down on the costs of electrical power. We have installed automatic entrance lights in the access hallways to the tenant units in our house, which activate when it senses movement then shuts off after 5 minutes, and we control the heat in the entire house with a central thermostat, set for 21 Celsius year round, gas furnace in the winter and central air conditioning in the summer. Previous bill was $28.34 for 59 days. 48 cents a day.
My latest bill is $39.88 for 61 days. 65 cents a day.
I have used my Air Con a few days a week with the 100 degree days.
My power bills are very cheap for all electric.
That's dirt cheap. I pay about $60-80/mo., depending on the season. I think my bill is a fair, in what the costs are to produce it. There has to be a reason why your bills are so low????

That's really cheap. My Pacific Gas & Electric was just $101.00. Outrageous. It's never been that high for winter in this apartment. Electric was about 40 and gas 60. I don't run the heat much. Never at night. They have to pay for all those law suits and they are making the customers pay This company has burned down communities. Proven facts.

We heat the house and the shop with propane, which was $2.02gal ($1.60 the year before) when I filled all three 500gal tanks in the fall when prices are at their lowest, about 5500sf combined, and use about 900gal a year ($1800). The shop and the house electric are on separate meters and run just under $80 each per month, or $1920 a year for a total of $3720 a year, or $310 per month for all utilities. We have well and septic, so no cost there, and trash, and recycle we take to town once a week or so for no charge.

I live in a one bedroom flat. I am at work for 11 hours a day, 6 days a week.
I unplug everything when I leave home, except the fridge. No electric clocks etc.
In bed early 7 - 8pm.

@Bretrick I unplug the microwave. Keep the clock plugged in because I use it. If it wasn't for needing to keep my modem plugged in for the phone, I'd turn the surge protector off when the computer wasn't in use. But I have to keep it going incase my stepfather calls.

They say plugged in appliances, even when off, use electricity.

I can’t really complain, compared to some with high power/heat bills.
The highest bill I’ve had this winter was around $350.00 for one month…..I will admit…..I have a lot of plug in use.
Digital clocks, 4 google nest hubs, computers…..something is always getting charged….lights not so much….only use the dryer for towels and the unmentionables, finished basement, but have the ducts almost closed…..have only plugged in my vehicle once in almost seven years.
Cheapest power bill in summer was $73.00….with AC usually an extra $25 to $40 per summer months.

So, it boils down to that we are not going broke from power…..has been a very slight increase.

The last PG&E bill was $16.49 for 65.479 kwh which comes to $.26 per kwh.
The last Socalgas bill was $10.95 for 3 therms, which comes to $3.65 per therm.
The majority of those is for the excessive up front charges that have nothing to do with the usage.
