Once You Read/Hear a Word ….

Once you read or hear a not commonly used word, then it seems to occur almost immediately.

We were watching TV and the young reporter used a word and we both hesitated and looked at each other, because it didn’t feel like the correct usage. Double checking with the dictionary, it wasn’t.

That evening we heard it used properly in a different context.

Just saw it again today. No problems, because HC is articulate.

plethora of recipes.

Three times a charm.

Anyone else had one of those moments lately?

Protagonist. I've gone 75 years without ever hearing that word, then one day it showed up in something I was reading. I had to look it up, as I had never heard of it before. Now I see the word protagonist everywhere. For some reason it annoys me. Why can't they just say "main character" or something similar...protagonist sounds snooty. I can't see me having a discussion about a movie with my friends and using the word protagonist...just not in my vocabulary.
