One issue with living alone,

If you are simply applying something on your skin place the ointment on a wash cloth or towel and lay on it. Put the wash cloth on your bedspread or the floor and simply lay down on it then squirm to spread it around.

well I just ordered one of those sponge things off of amazon,
so I'll be all set !!!
If what you ordered doesn't work for you, here's a cream applicator made specifically for reaching anywhere on your back easily. You apply the cream to the blue puck which is on a slight swivel so you can access all the contours of your back. That's key because a straight rod or stick doesn't work nearly as well for all areas.

Here's what it looks like:

It's made by Galderma and the arm itself has a hinge midway down which is also helpful for reaching some areas on your back. If you're seeing a dermatologist, they should have them and provide them for free.
