One of the imponderables of life....

I'm sure I wouldn't like this if my name was Karen but it's become a part of the national discussion now. It stays alive because everything is videoed now and put on the Internet.

Maybe if women quit having public meltdowns it would die off but that doesn't seem likely either. People are more on edge and act out in public more now than ever before especially when they are telling others what to do. :(

This never made sense to me at all... I mean why Karen? Why not Susan or Mary or Sarah? It doesn't mean anything. 🤷‍♀️ And why not just a description like "privileged b----?" It always reminded me of something we'd do in grade school.
I know it started during the pandemic but I'm not sure what incident started it. Was the woman involved named Karen, perhaps? One thing I will say, I bet it was started by a man.

There are all kinds of putdowns, like white privilege, etc. It does remind me of grade school too, all name calling does, but I may have to change my mind and quit blaming the kids. We see name calling on this forum. How old do we have to be before it stops?

Now you’ve just stereotyped all women into having public meltdowns. 🤷‍♀️😝
No, only the women having public meltdowns. No need to take it personally if you don't do this. I guess I could have said men and women but I don't know any men named Karen. But, men do have public meltdowns. We've all seen them.

I think its awful, taking a fairly common name and turning it into something ugly. There ARE some very nice women named Karen. I know 2 of them. One is my aunt.
I agree. Why in the world, in this time of people being so very careful of offending others to the point of self censoring their own speech is it considered OK to take this cheap shot at people named Karen.

Who knows. These things just take off and with social media and the Internet they grow really quickly.

But, what do you think about men named John? The associations with that name have been around for a very long time and I think everyone here knows what they are. I would never have named my son John. Dick (common nickname for Richard) would be an even worse name for a boy but those names are still in use despite what they have been associated with.

People can be crude and no one has ever found a way to stop it.

My big sister was named Karen
and she didn't tell on anybody

.......even me!

(I enjoyed the joke, BTW)

On a site I frequented early century, there were 'Timmys'

Guess that didn't take

'Karen' will die off

Just don't be a 'Goofus'
(Where's a Highlights mag when ya need one)

Names come and go for lots of reasons. For example I have Irish ancestors named Dorcus, it was once popular. But those days are long past...

Dorcas is a feminine name of Greek origin. Translating to “gazelle,” this name a unique choice if you can already sense that baby will have a spring in their step. Dorcas was also the Greek name for Tabitha, a biblical figure who is seen as a saint in both the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Church.

I once watched some Youtube compilations of "Karens" and started to notice a few things.

One is that the only thing the Karens really have in common is that they became angry in public, they come in all ages and all degrees of apparent wealth. They may or may not be "privilidged."

They are always women, probably because angry men are scary and people don't stand around filming them.

Sometimes it's obvious that the Karen really was treated horribly and had every right to ask to speak to the manager.

In most of the videos we never see the person behind the camera or the things that went on before the filming started.

One man on Youtube has made loads of Karen films and we begin to wonder just what he did or said to her before he started filming to make the Karen woman so angry.

Jenny lives across the street from me. Cute lady, good neighbor.
Said she liked the movie ... HATES when I wear my ball cap over there.
Don't know why. It's a nice hat.

Lol…. So true. I guess there was no other way to word it. I wonder if there will be a corresponding male named picked for the men who have melt downs 😂
Once a "Karen"..always a "Karen"...they didn't grow into it..born..that way.
Are you claiming that a spoiled entitled woman is born that way? It has nothing to do with their home environment or how they were raised? I’d have to respectfully disagree with you there. All people are born innocent.
