One would feel rather foolish?

The crew on a fishing boat called in a man overboard distress call when one of their crew was thought to be missing.
2 am and the crew are hauling in their load when one of the crew said, " Where is......"
It appeared that he had fallen overboard. Long story, Short Story, The search efforts included eight helicopters, two fixed-wing aircraft, one jet, two water police vessels, two fishing vessels and a Coast Guard vessel.
14 hours later someone checked his cabin. He was snugly curled up asleep.
The cost of the 3 RACQ Life Flight Rescue Helicopters alone is estimated to be 1/4 of a million dollars.
Someone on the boat is going to get a huge bill

It would be a shame if virtue were so quickly reduced to punitive dollars and cents, wouldn't it?

We (mostly) value each and every human life, and have groups and processes that look to preserve it at almost any cost. If you're in the sea drowning, whether you're a good guy or not, you still represent a life. So thankfully, there's nothing to pay out for these services.

The cabin boy rushes up to the captain, very agitated and barely able to speak.

"C-C-Captain! T-t-the....."

"What is it, boy? Out with it! Sing it out, boy!"

Cabin boy clears his throat, "Mi-mi-mi-mi.......Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? The purser's fallen overboard and he's twenty leagues behind!"
Thanks for the memory, jujube. :D I vividly recall being taught that in school in1960, except it was "a sailor" and "miles". I think the lesson had to do with public speaking.
