Oneryness at Halloween time

I remember when we were kids, when some kids went trick or treating, if they came to a home that didn't give treats, they would teepee their house, bushes, trees. etc.. or do mischievous things to get back at the owner. My siblings and myself never did because if we did, we'd get our bottoms whooped. Do kids still do that? I haven't noticed it for a long time. Hopefully they've moved on to more constructive things.
 

It's strange you brought that up because on the evening news tonight, they had a short piece about police and the youth in this Alabama town toilet-papering peoples homes, and laughing about it. They are mostly from some church group raising money, and "for a fee" they will come clean up your home after they've put toilet paper on the trees, bushes, and everywhere.

Well. That's innovative, I guess. It would make me upset if it were my home. I'd rather just donate to the church if that's what it's for but it would ruin their fun.

And not only that.. (yeah, yeah, here comes practical Kate), how are they even making a profit with TP being so expensive? The 6-pack that used to cost $4.99 is now around $7 and it takes a LOT of the stuff (even a generic brand) to TP houses. Who's buying it? They have to use $10 worth of it to "roll" my house and I donate $10 to have them clean it up... uh... the logic is escaping me :unsure: but it's early, so maybe I'm not catching something?
 
When I was a teenager the local grocery store, hardware store, and drugstore refused to sell eggs, toilet paper, shaving cream, spray paint,etc… to young people.

It was probably illegal but it was accepted.

My friends and I were too lazy to engage in any sort of vandalism. 😉🤭😂

Smashing people’s pumpkins was also quite common. My stepfather used to try and outwit the kids by drilling a couple of small holes in the pumpkin and running a sturdy rope or cable through them in an attempt to anchor them to the porch. He always lost and laughed but he enjoyed the challenge.

I don’t see any of that sort of thing in this area anymore.

Not much actual trick or treating, many go to the mega mall or various trunk or treat events.

The one exception is a very upscale area near me that welcomes hoards of kids from all around the city.

Also, one local pizzeria gets a great deal of free publicity for giving out free slices to kids in costume.
 
I don't even see kids trick or treating anymore. No houses had their lights on. One house does have a pumpkin on the porch and they don't even come out during the day if there are any kids around anymore.

The worse we ever did was soap a few windows where a few friends lived. The day after, we would go back to the few homes we had soaped and offered to clean the windows we messed up. No one ever took us up on our offer, even though we would insist on cleaning the windows. The one mom of our friend told us she had been meaning to get her husband to wash the outside windows, so maybe now he will do it. And, he did.
