Ontario's oldest stone buildings are in Niagara: 1782, 1796, 1798

For our American readers who may live within a couple hours drive of Niagara Falls, the lovely town of Niagara on The Lake is a beautifully maintained historic place. NOTL was at one time the Capital of Upper Canada, and the Town has a strict set of by laws that require all of the early houses and commercial buildings to be maintained in terms of their outside appearance, as original.

NOTL is a very different place to visit, compared to the busy tourist destination that is the Canadian side of Niagara Falls which is just a few miles down the road from NOTL. NOTL is especially nice in the fall, as the town has a large number of Oak, Maple, and Elm trees which change color in the fall, showing a wide range of gold, red, yellow and deep bronze leaves.
