Last summer on a very warm day, I was upstairs in the bedroom getting a book from the night table. It was kind of warm in the room so I decided I would open the bedroom window and let the breeze in to cool down the room. It was a very nice breeze....
Closed the bedroom door and with my book in hand, headed downstairs into the kitchen where Sue was finishing up washing the dishes.....
"Gee," I said, " It was warm upstairs."
"Well, maybe you should turn on the air conditioning."
"Naw. Don't need to."
"Why not?"
" I opened up the bedroom window. Nice breeze..."
Sue stopped drying the dishes.....
"You what?"
" I opened the bedroom window..."
"Did you not see that the screen was removed?"
"Oh. Actually I didn't....That's not good huh...Anyway I closed the bedroom door."
"That's good. That should keep all the critters out of the bedroom...Like, let's see...Mosquitos, lady bugs, flies..."
"How will closing the bedroom door.......Oh wait, you're being sarcastic, right?"
"ME?? Naw...Now, do you think you could go back upstairs and close the window THEN turn on the air conditioning...OK?"
So I marched upstairs. I follow orders really good. When I got there and before I opened the bedroom door I heard something from within the bedroom.....I slowly opened the door, peeked in....I went back downstairs....Sue had moved into the living room....
"Did you close the bedroom window?" She asked.
"Not yet."
"Why?"
"I think we have a slight problem."
"Now what?"
"There seems to be a rather large bird in our bedroom."
"WHAT?"
"There seems to be..."
"I heard you. For the love of Mike, why did you open the window?"
I stared at Sue. I mean, I had already told her it was too warm in the bedroom....Anyway, Sue heads upstairs, she gets to the bedroom door ....
"Doug, are you coming up here or not?"
I assumed I'd better go....." On the way."
When I arrived sure enough something was making quite a racket in the bedroom....
"So," Asks Sue, "Did you see what kind of large bird it was?"
"Actually no. However, I'm assuming here, It is a big one with all the noise it's making. Maybe it's an Eagle or something...Maybe I should call animal control."
Sue slowly opens the bedroom door, looked in and closed the door...
"Doug, it's a pigeon."
"You sure?"
"Yes. A pigeon.....A large bird indeed.....By the way, the pigeon has pooped on YOUR pillow...."
After thinking about that for a short time and not being amused I suggested we should try to remove large bird....OK, not so large...Out of the bedroom and back into the wild where it belonged....
We slowly opened the door and both of us looked in. Looking back at us from atop the dresser was the pigeon. The bird cautiously toddled to the end of the dresser where it stopped. We were at an impasse....Sue and I moved into the room without any idea how to handle the situation.
However, no need to strategize as the pigeon, seeing the two of us standing there , took off and fortunately headed straight for the open window and disappeared...I'm assuming off to inform his pigeon buddies what an adventure he had.
As for me I think I learned a valuable lesson.....
