Oscar Pistorius

Olympic track star returns to court today (Thursday) for judgement in his murder trial.

He is accused of killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day of 2013.

Whether found guilty or not guilty, the verdict in the six month trial could take up to 48 hours to be delivered.

Judge Thokozile Masipa will first recount and analyze the evidence given by each of the nearly 40 witnesses in the criminal case that captured considerable international attention.

I am currently watching the live feed on Satellite channel eNCA (also referred to as eNews Channel Africa)
is a 24-hour television news broadcaster focusing on South African and African stories.

Many other satellite broadcasters are transmitting news coverage.

Ive been riveted to it ,listening how the Judge arrives at each verdict..
in my mind i have found him guilty

Breaking news:

South African star athlete Oscar Pistorius will not be found guilty of murder, but culpable homicide is still a possibility, a court has heard.
During the six-month trial, Pistorius had told the court he thought there was an intruder in his home and that was why he fired four shots through the bathroom door.

Those shots killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The prosecution had argued the two had a fight and the athlete deliberately killed her.
Judge Thokozile Masipa told the court in Pretoria this evening the evidence in the charge of premeditated murder was "purely circumstantial".

Warri, I have watched what I could of this story, and I still can't get a good sense of his guilt or innocence. What does the Australian populous believe? I have seen where facts can be manipulated, and sometimes you have to trust what your instincts tell you. What is the going belief? What kind of sentence can come down on him?

It only means that the judge will deliver her decision tomorrow whether he is guilty of manslaughter or culpable homicide, although we will have to wait for a further time for the sentencing which could be anything from (given his disability and fragile mental state) 15 years prison time right the way down to just strict house arrest several years. That would mean police on gaurd of him night and day for quite a while but in his own home

Listening to the S/A reporters they believe that since the SA prisons are extremely overcrowded there's a good possibility that the latter may be the option of which the judge chooses, however if she decides he deserves to serve a prison sentence the spokespeople have suggested it will likely be between 5 and 7 years ...either sentence he will be allowed leave to appeal

We won't get to know tomorrow what sentence he will be given, just the judgement!

Prosecution lawyer Gerrie Nel argues that Pistorius should not be granted bail.

Latest twist is that he has sold off all his properties and Gerrie Nel has asked the judge to hold him in custody

Now he knows he will probably go to prison.

Nel said Pistorius disposed of three properties while he was out on bail during the trial.

He also said Pistorius might be a suicide risk.

.

I must confess; I have found it more interesting than the endless arguements re the Scottish referendum..

Latest update

Sentencing is now scheduled for 13 October.

Bail has been extended.

.
And here I thought the american system of justice was bad, this case just keeps on dragging, dragging along.
If his name was Joe Blow with no arms or legs nobody would care.

Of course, he has the best lawyers in the world. If he had been Joe Soap [or black] you do wonder what the outcome would have been. It's all very dubious.

Well if Pistorius tops himself that would save the state a bit of cash and be a fitting end to a nasty piece of work!
