Ouija board experiences?

I have my doubts about Ouija boards. If I ask it a question, it will most likely respond with something along the lines of:

1. Please provide credit card number to continue
2. Press 1 for a future prediction, press 2 to contact the dead, press 3 for more choices, prensa nueve para continuar en espanol
3. This destination is no longer in service
4. Processing error, please try again

In my opinion, Ouija boards fall into the class of fortune tellers, astrology, numerology, and things of that sort.
The main danger, again my opinion, is to the people who believe in this crazy stuff and make important decisions based on their belief.

Over 60 years ago, my older sister (long deceased) and I played with a Ouija board for about an hour until I realized she was taking it seriously - VERY seriously, and I quit and have not touched one since.

A few years ago, my other sister told me how much our older sister believed in all this occult stuff, saying she chose her husband based on a description of a fortune teller. The marriage was not a good one.

Believe what you want, but don't try to convince others to believe this nonsense. It can be dangerous!

Yes quite right RB ........very dangerous ....’!!

"Persuasion" is what people use in many aspects of life bend minds. Take religion, politics, cults, loyalty in general. We are not born in to think a certain way so societies create guidelines, morals, morays, etc. for citizens to follow. We generally attach ourselves to those that think similar thoughts to our own. Now we have social media influencing children and teens to think a certain way and even act a certain way. Charisma has proven to be a most dangerous trait in some world leaders resulting in millions of deaths to people like Jim Jones poisoning hundreds of innocent people simply because he told them it was time to die.
I have seen posts here from people that swore by tele psychics that advertise on TV late at night. I do not disown the paranormal as I try to keep an open mind. The people I have met at times that are believers were very grounded in their beliefs. I believe Carl Sagan was right concerning visitors from other planets when he said, "I'll believe when I see it." Skepticism is the best and safest route for me and I do have a strong interest in the paranormal because while being a skeptic I rule out nothing just because I don't buy in to it. I confess I watch "Paranormal Caught On Camera" because like I said, I try to keep an open mind.

Hello everyone, just wanted to tell you about my experience and get some opinions. After months of my daughter (16) nagging me to get a Ouija board I relented. Made one with some scrabble letters and an upturned glass. Did not expect anything to happen and for her to get bored within 30 seconds but how wrong I was......Truly bizarre experience, glass moved and indicated that it was my father, gave me his name, my name, daughters name, my mums name and one of my sisters names. When I asked if it was really my father it indicated no. I asked who they really were and it went to zozo. We stopped then went back to try again and again it started out by giving me the name of a deceased family member and then when asked if it was really them it said no and kept going from z to o. It then asked me to kill their brother, I asked why, it said their brother had murdered them. Also indicated that it hated me, hated my daughter, hated my son and that my daughter should f*** off. This went on for 4 hours asking it various questions about past events and also predicted events in the future and always came back to saying it was zozo !!!!!! Has anybody experienced anything similar ???

On a couple occasions as a teenager. I knew 2 girls in HS that were big Dark Shadows fans, I'd go by their place after school and watch with them. They had a Ouija board that we played with a couple times. I always thought that one of them was consciously moving the pointer.
 would have agreed with you until I tried using one the other night.......

I gave up all manner of superstitious nonsense by the time I started junior high school.

To my knowledge, there is absolutely no evidence of paranormal anything. If I am wrong, I would very much appreciate some references that I can read. But please, I don't want personal anecdotes. I want properly designed, properly conducted, peer reviewed scientific studies.
Alas Raybar only can offer details of my own very scary experience with one, maybe if you tried it you would change your mind :eek:

No. I never had a board with "Zozo" on it. Never contacted the dead. I was a kid when I used mine and asked it kid questions. We never asked who was telling us these things. Yours was a scary experience. Thanks for sharing it. I never heard of a ouija asking someone to commit murder. :devilish:

I did the same the initials of who i would marry etc...
that seemed to be a big question of preteen / teen girls.....
Many tried so hard to make what ever initials match some boy in class.. i think some girls moved it to match their crush..... i never remembered what initials were to compare to who i ended up with .....
we never asked death questions or had weird answers appear ......

Yes I realise reading my post back it sounds nuts but honestly I am not suffering from lockdown fever it really happened and worse thing about it is I am tempted to try it again as the common sense part of me says one of us was subconsciously moving it and I just want to try it again to make sure, but the other part of me knows we were not moving it simply by the speed it was moving. When I googled zozo freaked me out even more !

You people really believe this crap ??

You otherwise reasonably sensible people ? You people that just love to rag on the ignorance of others, when it comes to many other subjects?

Again, it's a 'spooky-creepy' game for children ! Do y'all still believe in the tooth fairy ? Santa Claus ?
rgp with all due respect it really is NOT crap and is certainly not a game.

The Bible warns against fooling around with "occult" stuff, even if just for fun. Fortunately, I never had much interest in that kind of thing. Reading other people's experiences here, I am grateful to just not have developed such interests. o_O

There is far, far too much we simply don't know, so I believe it is possible for somebody to stumble onto something he or she wished s/he hadn't.

Not for me, I completely do not believe in any of that stuff. Fortune tellers, Ouija boards, psychics, to me it’s all b.s. I also do not believe in ghosts and I do not believe there’s any life after death either. Once you’re gone, you’re gone. Dust to dust.

If others want to believe in what I feel very strongly is a bunch of hooey, that’s their choice.

I remember playing with a Ouija board at least once with my friends when I was young but nothing happened (at least not for real). I think one of the girls tried to make it seem like the thing you push was moving on it's own. Fast forward to adulthood, whenever the subject of the Ouija board came up, respondents would say how dangerous it is to use one...and how it allows evil spirits to come through.

Wasn't the ouija board invented and sold by a novelty company in the 1890's as a toy, for entertainment?
Little did the makers know that they were releasing the key to unlock evil and allow malevolent happenings into people's lives.

Never really had much interest in the bible to be honest just think the mind is incredibly powerful and can not help wondering what is making it happen. I just used some scrabble letters and an up turned glass !!!!! For the record I am not a devil worshipper nor am I a Christian. If anything an atheist.

Scientists have not found any evidence that anyone but the people using the board are moving the planchette. Aren't you glad I left biblical scripture out of this one? Trust me I was tempted but the prognosis is evil.
