Our mask mandate was lifted. People are so happy.

Our mask mandate has been lifted after more then 13 months. People were so happy it was unbelievable. Everyone was talking about how great it is to see peoples faces again. I was cleaning pine sap off my car when 4 neighbors, in rapid succession said good morning and had a convo with me. I was shocked. Still it's nice to see things becoming more normal again. I feel much better and so, apparently, did everyone else.

Some folks are still wearing masks but much fewer than I had anticipated. Now to get that darned sap off my car. :giggle:

It is really nice to see people smiling again, not to mention the health benefits therefrom. That said, people around here quit masking months ago except where stores required it.

Last Wednesday the mask mandate was lifted here. There are some exceptions like the library which is a county building and medical clinics and hospitals. Most stores have signs on their doors that say you can go without a mask if you have been vaccinated. I see that some people still wear them if their health is compromised.

Hospitals still require face covering here also. :(

You're lucky then. I was surprised by how many did ditch their masks. I'd say overall, it was a 70% - 30% split. The majority chose not to wear masks. It feels so much more normal again and everyone said it's nice to see peoples' faces. It's depressing not to.

I took my mask with me when I went grocery shopping and I'm glad I did, most were still wearing them.
It really didn't bother me and I avoided confrontation with anyone who would see me without a mask until it becomes the norm.
I vividly remember at the beginning of this mess a man yelling at me because I went the wrong way down an aisle and at that time I didn't see the arrows on the floor. It was a new precaution I hadn't heard about.
He really made quite a scene until I turned my cart around. There was no explaining my mistake, he was out for blood.
I'd rather not go through that again.

My local supermarket has a small sign at the entrance that simply says "If you are fully vaccinated you don't have to wear a mask". I noticed about 30% of the staff is unmasked but virtually all the customers are still wearing a mask. The sign while not hard to see is also not obvious.

I can hear my mom saying "Bafangu chooch!"

Promise me you'll say that loud and clear if anything like this ever happens again.

masks ended this past friday with a few "buts". if an establishment has signs saying masks are required... well, they're required. i would have to say that more people are still wearing masks than not... in places like shoprite or lowes or walmart. i had a mask with me and would have put it on if asked to.

i think about how i felt the first time i went into the BANK with a mask on. got a serious case of the giggles.

so what's next? i'm thinking some sort of booster shot will happen... maybe by end of 2021?

It’s a mixed bag here. My post office still has a sign up saying “masks mandatory.” Technically, the governor is saying masks until June 28th, or we reach herd immunity, whichever comes first. Masks are no longer required at Walmart or Target, but a diminishing 50% wear them. I try to follow whatever the majority seems to be doing so as to “blend in.” 🤔

I rode about 200 miles today , going through a good number of towns, and only saw one mask. Lots of friendly, smiley faces with strangers being almost neighborly. Losing those face diapers is giving people a major boost in spirit.
