Our one-topic, run-it-into-the-ground, news media.

I had said to Janet, a few days ago, that the only way the news media will let go of bombarding us with CV19 hype and alarmist nonsense, daily, was if another BIG story came along.

Well, that's happened, obviously. This unfortunate man was murdered by a bad cop, right before our eyes, and we see this happening to him, every hour, on the hour.

Predictably, those inclined to riot, after (maybe) being cooped up for a few months, have hit the streets, continuing to spread violence and mayhem, even though the murderer has been arrested.

The media covers every little protest, gives voice to every protester who mugs and mouths off for the camera, covers the family of the murder victim, any time they wish to make a statement. Gee, this can't lead to further incitement of mob violence, right?

This got me thinking why, over the past two decades, or so, the news media has become a one-topic, one-trick pony.

I think it's because of the dumbing down of both the news media and those who stay glued to it. Our education system is a joke, with kids being passed simply to get them out of one grade and into another, even if they're dumber than a box of rocks!

So, we now have dummies on the air reporting to dummies on the couch. Great. Other dummies write easily digestible news stories for the masses, and as long as only one topic is gone over, and over, and over, and........, all dummies are happy! Cool, except for those of us who actually possess higher intellectual capabilities......

this is part of the reason i gave up television many years ago. i think if the media would knock off their bs people wouldn't be constantly freaking out and things might calm down. of course if people would turn off their tv's that would help. it's one thing to inform us on something but the constant barrage is ridiculous.

Precisely what's been happening here for the last few years...I am so sick and tired of saying it, I was beginning to think it was just me

The TV news media is becoming little more than a venue for endless commercials...especially Drug commercials. On average, at least 1/3rd of a half hour broadcast is commercials. Most days, I can find more news online in 10 minutes, than sitting in front of the TV for 30 minutes. A person used to be able to "flip channels" and miss most of that commercial nonsense, but anymore all the networks seem to coordinate their "breaks" such that flipping just changes the commercial....and quite often they will be broadcasting the Same commercial.

Our televised news media is more about making money than reporting the news.

That's where we're fortunate in having the BBC channels.. no commercial advertising on there.. so if we want to watch the news we turn to the BBC.. rather than one of the commercial channels

Well, 24 hour TV/radio news isn't 24 hour news, it's 24 hour opinion. And quite frankly, they have to yap about something, or you have dead air, between the 8 million commercials. Most of us are used to NBC,CBS, ABC news, as it was in the 1950-80s. They prided themselves as being non-biased. Fox & MSNBC kind of killed that idea. And depending on your political persuasion, you see all news outlets as "agin or fer". Profit, not news, has replaced the reason for a news outlet. According to some historians, we are back to the way news was in the 1700s. Back then it was a mixture of rumor, biased ideology, profit, and sometimes, even news. I mentioned the way TV news was when we were born, because those news organizations stood for values, other than profit. They were the most trusted people in the nation. The 6:30 news wasn't expected to be a profit horse. The networks foot the bill for the news dept. I guess we long for those golden days.

I don't understand why they think we need updates 24/7 on the crap they're gonna report on each news cast every day. It's too much. If I still had tv I'd rather watch something else than that same crap all day every day for months. I mean come on!
