Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

Thanks for the update about your son & his family.
Can imagine the children are excited over all the snow.

While the parents worry about keeping them from getting bored.
Not the kind of a snow storm that kids need out in.

We've not had much snow,But temps have dropped at night.
Erie, Pa. police found a 2 y.o. child outside, deceased.

What? Where were the parents?

Just breaks one's heart to read of that.

I've been diagnosed as having AMD
Advanced Macular Degeneration

There is an operation that 'could' possibly slow it down, but no cure
and that operation is a big risk

I have a scant trace of my retina in my right eye
My left eye is a tad better

I never considered losing my eyesight
Maybe getting one poked out from neglecting to put on my safety glasses when using my chain saw
Or losing a digit or limb

But this is an aggravatingly big surprise

Don't know what would be worse;
Not able to go where I'm seeing
or
Not able to see where I'm going

There's worse things in this life

No complaints
I was reading up about AMD because my aunt had it and I've noticed my eyes changing. Eating these: leafy greens, kale, spinach, has been known to help slow it down. Here is a link that talks more about it: Diet and Nutrition
So I have started incorporating more greens in my life.

Any word from your son & family?

Hopeful they weathered the storm without any problems.
They're doing great!
The girls are frolicking in the snow, and playing in their cabin of toys
Son is working on his truck and cooking soup

They're pretty much given to being snowed in

Plenty of wood for heat
Plenty of food to eat

All is well

Thanks for asking @Sliverfox

When there was a bit of snow on the ground, by the time I got back to the shop to get my camera, the feeders were jammed
Heh

Saw a couple tiny flakes fall on the way to the shop this morn

The tiny guys were on it

When living up at the cabin, I religiously watched the forecast, but learned to observe the wildlife in regard to immediate weather changes

Pretty telling

Many things reminded us of our mountain place

Miss it

Even if some of those challenges no longer make sense given the steady decline in bodily health and fitness, at least you had that experience while you were up for it. And you have the pictures to show it really happened which you can savor now.

Got that right @MarkD
Wouldn't do well up there with my poor eyesight now

Glad we handed it over to our son
They have so much fun up there

Yes, memories to savor

A bevy of ravenous doves

Grabbed the Nikon
Trying for the elusive wing spread of a dove
wing spread.jpg

I've attempted 'the shot' for around a decade now
The quest started with the mourning doves up at he cabin

Never could capture it

And today......the same

Many wing flaps....many

You did get close Gary. I like the one on the left.

In the third photo, the dove on the right is close to the picture you are trying to get. If you removed the background and made it black, the dove's wings would stand out more. Good photos!
