Over half recent college graduates wish they were taught more life skills while in college

IMO this stuff should be an age-appropriate topic for kids of all ages at home and in school.

The earlier you learn and apply these life skills in your daily routine the better prepared you will be when you leave home.

I agree with you, all of my children had chores to do and I started them cooking as soon as they could reach the stovetop.
They each had a savings account which was taught to them in school if they wanted something expensive we would meet them halfway with it and they could get extra money by helping more around the house and yard.

I recall being rejected when I requested taking Shop classes instead of Home Economics in Grade 8.
In my opinion, I think both sexes should be required to take both those subjects.

When I was in Jr. High(grades 7,8,9) there was a Home Economics case for boys called "Chief's Class". Immensely popular, what teenage boy doesn't love to eat! I also took agriculture, wood shop, metal shop, print shop and plastic shop.

All of those old traditional introductory shop classes have been abandoned in our local public schools.

We still have a variation of Home Economics.

We also have vocational programs for kids that are serious about careers in the skilled trades, food service, healthcare, etc...

I've thought for years that there should be some kind of basic life skills class that every high school kid had to take, which would include things like writing a resume, going to an interview, simple business etiquette, etc. This should include not showing up for an interview for a part time file clerk dressed like you work in a car wash.
