Painting white gloss woodwork

I’m about to freshen up the paintwork in my bathroom, it’s white, I use gloss paint, and usually sand it down then paint one coat but wondered if it may be better to use an undercoat first, any advice would be appreciated

No you shouldn't have to on previously painted wood, Wren, as long as you've sanded it down evenly.

Painting white on white, no matter paint texture, is always a much easier proposition than painting white on any other color, and seldom needs an undercoat.

I have a cousin who always wipes down trim work with plain vinegar before repainting. He says it gets any film or grime off and dulls it a bit so the new paint will stick better.

This is a really good idea. They definitely should be cleaned and cleaned squeaky clean. Vinegar is perfect for this if you decide not to sand.

There is a product on the market that dulls down and cleans previously painted work.

If the paint is in good condition and no peeling it's o.k. to just sand it and wipe it down before painting.

Don't try to get away with one coat. That never seems to work for me.
