Paper and pencil or iPads for elementary age students?

The city school district here used iPads for pre-k through 2nd grade, chrome-books or similar for 3rd through 5th grade, laptops and computer work stations for grade 6 and above.

I’m old fashioned enough to believe that kids should learn the basics the old fashioned way but I can’t think of one good reason to support that belief. 😉🤭😂

It’s time for me to get out of the way and let the parents, teachers, and kids figure it out.

My son has her do her homework both ways, he is adamant about that. She told her Daddy, "I can do it this way at home
but don't tell my teacher I do." She is in 3rd grade now and her spelling is horrible even on the IPad. They are not teaching
vocabulary/spelling as we knew it apparently.

I think the purpose was to get used to using electronics, but kids also need to do things on their own. many schools are figuring that out.

I always had grandkids do things on paper with us made up tests or such playing "school"
My daughter had them write letters for by hand as a kids reference for their uncle who is trying to adopt. It was a big hit with the social workers doing the background for the adoption process.
Just the reaction they got over it made them realize handwritten letters were better than anything they could have typed on a computer.
