Paper plates..what a concept

I do not usually use paper plates or napkins. Doing my thing for the environment. But this year, I figured I would get a couple packages of small holiday plates and bowls. I used them for the appetizers, and to put some munches around...candies and nuts. Also used a couple later when my hubby and I craved leftovers. Less clean up, definitely. Had my dishes done in record time. I would do it again.

I also, go to the dollar store and pick up some of those plastic storage containers to uses as take away containers for my guests. At least they do not have to return them.

We started using paper plates many years for camping, and quickly starting using them in the house too. I get big packs of them from Costco. We use regular plates for hot meals, but for a sandwich, cake, or anything like that we use the paper plates, a lot easier for the two of us, so for soup and sandwich we have the regular soup bowl and the pot, but the sandwich plates go in the trash.

I do exactly the same as you SB... for stuff like cake and sandwiches I use them all the time, even wooden ( used to be plastic)...forks... saves all the washing up..

Kind of an ironic joke, that many of our generation bought or inherited all sorts of beautiful china, silver, crystal, etc. And nobody ever uses that stuff any more. (Yesterday, I did serve my bunch Thanksgiving leftovers on my best china, just so I could get a chance to use it for once!)

I've got nothing against using them and the cutting back on dish washing does make sense to use them but we've never purchased or used paper plates, bowls, cups etc.

I use them only if there's a casual bunch here.

HD I love the wooden fork idea- I haven't seen them. I try to avoid plastics.

yes I like them too, they're made from a kind of balsa wood, all the cafes and tearooms replaced the plastic straws with paper ones, and at the same time changed the plastic cutlery to wood... they're kinda cool

I mainly use disposables for picnics.

For storage containers, I use my supply of hillbilly Tupperware. The biggest challenge is not to save every nice little container that comes into the kitchen. When the cupboard becomes an avalanche zone I toss a bunch of containers into the recycling bin.

I have not bought any disposables plates or cups in years. When I cleaned out my mother's apartment she had a collection for every occasion that you can imagine. Don't be surprised if you see plates with poinsettias or cups with pumpkins on them at my next little roadside picnic lunch.

I wash dishes several times a day and really don't mind it, I'm guilty of wasting water and washing up liquid instead of trees.

We use ā€˜em here at the cabin (not for steak or heavy things)
And the woven plate holders (gotta have those)
We never ever ever ever use disposable eating ware (make no sense, and very frustrating)

Anyway, when the meal is over, I open the wood stove….and do the dishes

I also buy the paper plates/cups at the $store, since its only me,I have 4 regular salad plates/larger ones.At dinner,I use the real salad plate
I use the paper plate every day for my sandwich at lunchtime, rinse it out, usually lasts me a week or so.
I usually use the cups for my dessert e.g ice cream, applesauce, also rinse them out. I find other things to use the cups for e.g holds my spare pennies

I would rarely consider using them, and will probably save what I have left until next Thanksgiving. But they were convenient. We even use cloth napkins for day to day use. I have about a dozen of them, so why not. Not much effort to throw them in with a load of wash.
Once my husband found some lightweight bamboo dishwear, a few plates, and bowls. I really like using them. He found them at a restaurant supply place, sold singly. Not too expensive. Like this picture
