Paranormal Ghosts, Spirits, etc. What Could They Be If They Exist?

Not saying one way or another about the existance of what we have come to know a ghosts or spirits or haunted buildings and the like. So IF they are real, why do they exist? Are they people that died yet still remain in the same location for unknown periods of time? Would that not be a horrible thing? What if they are people or "non-people" strapped in an other dimension? What if they are people in a separate/different time? I don't mean from the past or future but what if time has a different meaning from that which we know?

Also, if they are real what is their purpose? If it is a living entity do they change like we do? We see objects move mysteriously and hear sounds. Is that all they can do and why do it at all? When discussing the Big Bang Theory many questions arrive like were more than one universe created? Are the other universes exact replicas of ours? Are they located outside of ours or layered or interwoven in ours? There really are no definitive answers buy maybe that is the way it should be.

All I know is that my house, when my second wife and I moved in, had lighting, air currents, and whatever, that worked together in such a way that we both saw, independently, and told each other without prompting, an older woman, with long grey hair, in a flowing blue dressing gown, who kept walking through the hall, at different times of the day and night.

One night, I thought my wife had walked into our workout room. I called out to her, as she walked into it. I opened the door to see what she was up to. It was pitch black in that room. My hair stood on end, literally. In a year, or so, the sightings stopped. I don't know what caused them, in truth, but I know they occurred.

I believe we are all energy down to our core and when our bodies die we are meant to go to the light. Most realize they are dead so do this. The ones that stay in that other dimension don’t realize they are dead so their energy doesn’t move forward.
They are stuck in a dimension with other lost souls. At least, this is my belief.

That would be my mother in law

I jus’ grab a crucifix and she slinks away

The 'why' was a question I always had when she was in solid form

Ghosts don't exist. Of course, it's impossible to prove a negative, so the requirement to prove that they do exist is on those who claim they are real. Those woo-woo stories are tricks our brains play on us. We don't want the dead to be gone, so we conjure up ways to make them still remain among us.

Other universes? Maybe, or maybe there is one universe but it's stranger than we can imagine. There are limits to human understanding. All we are is highly advanced apes. Maybe someday, evolution will produce a superior species that can deal with all the unknowns of the universe, but it won't be us humans.

I lived in what may have been a haunted house.

We moved into a rental and I started decorating. I hung a lot of decorative baskets and other things on the wall. Unfortunately, they wouldn't stay there. We'd get up in the morning and one or two or three of them would be on the floor. One night, I heard a loud bang, and went out to find that an antique flugelhorn I had hung on the hall wall was now laying on the floor on the opposite of the wall. There was a mark where it had hit the wall. This went on for about three weeks, slowly tapering off until it stopped altogether.

We had been there about a month before I chatted with the next-door neighbor. She asked me if it bothered me to live in a house where someone had recently died? WHUT? Recently? Yep, the elderly previous renter had died in his sleep on the couch and wasn't discovered until a day or two later when his girlfriend couldn't get in touch with him. The landlords had cleared his stuff out to storage the next day and had it up for rent two days later. Of course, they hadn't mentioned this little detail to us; in fact, they had talked about him as if he had just moved.

There's a popular theory that ghosts are people who have died and aren't ready to move on to the next level yet. Some of them are angry, some are just sad. I'm not saying that I *believe* in ghosts, but I'm also saying that I don't *disbelieve* in them, either. There's a lot out there that we don't know about. I try to keep myself open.

So, if there *are* ghosts, maybe whatever it was that kept knocking the stuff off the walls was what was left of "Bob", who still thought he lived there and was angry because someone was decorating his house. And, maybe after a couple of weeks, he moved on to a better place. Who knows? I don't. I still don't and I probably never will. At least, until it's too late for me to come back and let you guys know......

Why do they always seem to be wearing flowing dressing gowns? :playful:
Or any clothing at all?
Can there be ghost apparel too?

Elon Musk thinks we are only living in a simulation anyway.

I believe that ghosts and unexplained paranormal phenomena do exist.

Even if ghosts are manufactured in the minds of men they do exist in those men's minds.

I believe that those hobgoblins of the mind exist for a reason, once the reason is found and the message is understood the spirits will usually go about their ghostly business and leave us alone.

“You don’t believe in me,” observed the Ghost.

“I don’t,” said Scrooge.

“What evidence would you have of my reality beyond that of your senses?”

“I don’t know,” said Scrooge.

“Why do you doubt your senses?”

“Because,” said Scrooge, “a little thing affects them. A slight disorder of the stomach makes them cheats. You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato. There’s more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!”

How about a little "street hip" for our more rap oriented spirits.

Funny how people are concerned about living in a house where someone has died. I live in the house where my mother died; my bedroom is the room where she died. Someone asked me once if I wasn't afraid to live in the house where she died. I told her I wasn't afraid of my mom when she was alive, why on earth (or elsewhere) would I be afraid of her when she is dead. Actually, I'd be absolutely delighted if she would come back and visit me.

From this, should we infer that you didn't like your MIL much??:D

'much'....in this context, that's a very kind word

If I had the choice between a clown chasing me with a bloody knife, or her making a move on me....I'd take the clown...and let him catch me

Maybe you have to be deceased to see them. If that is true I am in no hurry to see a ghost...:darth:

I can remember back in the mid 80's I moved into a house with a couple friends. I was home alone one evening, and had fallen asleep on the couch. As I was coming awake, I would swear I saw a shadowy figure moving from the front door toward the dining room. Something told me it was my mom, who had passed in 1980. Who knows.

I have often dreamt of friends and family who have died, when I first married Rick I dreamt several times of taking him to visit my parents at their house. They had both died long before we met, though he had been to the house, as my brother bought it after my dad moved to an apartment, and Rick and I had visited. I do not know of dreaming of a dead loved one is the same as a paranormal visit, though. I do remember a few months after my brother died, I dreamt or "saw" him visit to say he was doing ok and feeling well.

After my mother passed, I inherited, among other things, a lamp. She really liked that lamp. I had it in my living room. It would often flicker and go on and off. Jokingly, I would say' "Mother! Knock it off!" Ha ha. Well, clearly an electrical problem, right? So hubs replaced the innards with brand new wiring. And guess what? It continued to flicker on random occasions. So I got rid of the lamp. Mom can haunt someone else now. LOL! True story.
