Paris Olympics. Triathlon post phoned. Contaminated Seine river

Mens Triathlon and training has had to be post phoned because of bacteria levels in the Seine river which was a known issue coming in.

Men's Olympic Triathlon Rescheduled as E. Coli, Bacteria Rise in Paris' Seine River

They say the river has had decades of issues. Paris over 4 years to clean it up or find sources of pollution ie polluted run off. homeless using it for everything, illegal use/dumping. Sounds like a people or animal problem source, not industry.

Having attended hundreds of triathlons, 10Ks, 5Ks, roadraces, bike races, etc., *somebody* (and some times LOTS of somebodies) is throwing up at the race finish.

Not me, thank goodness, because I can't swim, run or bike my way out of a paper bag, but my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter were ardent participants in all of the above, with my granddaughter starting triathlon at the age of 8. She was nationally-ranked for a couple of years, #1 in her age group one year.

She had great dreams of participating in the Olympics but injuries put an end to that intensity of competition. She did, however, get a track scholarship to a Div. I college.

I'm so excited that track and field events have started. GO USA!!!

Thiat makes me sick think about it. It's awful. A beautiful city once upon a time. Still one of the most celebrated cities in the world with a polluted huge river running right through it. Really puts a bad spin on the whole genre. Paris is such a mixture of beauty and chaos. :(
 
And I had seen someone speaking on the news that said that river was safe. I don't know who it was but he sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

The Paris mayor took a dip in the river for a publicity stunt to show the river was safe.

But apparently if one takes anti e-coli meds they might be able to prevent illness. LIke the Australian team did taking anti e coli meds for a month prior to the Olympics.

Australia's triathletes took E.coli medicine a month before 2024 Paris Olympics

Thank you for that clarification WiT. But I don't recall him making the point that it was only safe if one took those meds. It is misleading to omit that information.
 
French practical joke, let's invite the world to come swim in our sewage, give out medals, and laugh.

I'm not sure he took them but since there are available precautions that most with money or in a position of power would have access to I wouldn't count it out. Too many known issues especially to locals to not take precautions.
