Participating in Senior Forums and surfing the internet in general keeps the brain active and, thus slows down impairment as we age...

I spend a lot of my spare time doing Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Read a lot of library books. Just feel that the brain needs to be kept as active as possible... or it will die. "Use it or lose it"!!!

As far as most of the discussion boards I post to... my pulse accelerates while reading/posting and I guess that may be good for cardio exercise!!!! Durn political threads....... :)

I'll buy that. Gives me another excuse to spend more time here. :D And it adds to my cardio for the day too? Can it get any better than that?

Anything that "exercises" the brain is a positive thing...especially as we get older. Sitting in front of the TV all day is a sure recipe for future problems...both mentally and physically. Browsing the Internet, and searching for topics that can stimulate the thought processes is certainly a help. Personally, I like to play online Poker for an hour or so in the evenings....matching wits with a half dozen other people can be quite a stimulant.

I have been of that mindset for some time now. Be it surfing the internet, reading, crafting, playing games. Anything to exercise our brain cells. But we need to exercise ourselves as well..walking, interacting with others, stuff like that. I am an introvert by nature, and I pretty much have to force myself, sometimes, to step away from the safety of my home or computer and step outside.

They say that socializing can help ward off dementia, of course everyday interactions in real life is ideal, but for those who can't get out or don't have many folks around them to talk to, I think participating on forums does help.
