Patented Thoughts

Real problem in Neck-or-Woods random thoughts being snatched up and claimed by others. Unless thoughts are patented your thoughts are not legally your own. Beware of mental hijack, have you ever had a loss for words? Perhaps, it was on the tip of your tongue only to draw a blank without form or reason?

Have you ever had an original idea but somebody else got credit for it? Perhaps your thoughts were hacked, if only you had taken the effort to patent your idea, you wouldn't have been left there standing with nothing to contribute.

Before you think, register your thoughts and get the credit you deserve.

Ohio born Thomas Edison held over 1,000 patents.
From what I understand Thomas Edison was no the inventor of many things he was/is accredited for. Thomas Edison registered people's ideas and inventions as his own. Dishonest?

Since no one is alive from that era to confirm or deny that by mouth, there is no reason to assume intellectual theft.

Oh Yes! This has happened to me so many time with craft designs over the years.
Can't prove it, but remember the old cute little bread dough Christmas ornaments, back in the 60-s and 70-s? I STARTED THAT! I REALLY DID!
I foolishly let someone photograph them and BOOM!
My designs were copied by everyone, all over the country! My Father Christmas figures, A Santa and Mrs. Santa out of nylon stockings, felt mice with cute little ruffled caps,
I still sold at craft shows and got a pittance of my designs, but I really handled things badly! My designs were stolen!

I have copyrights on inventions but who has the money to patent? Even if you DO patent, your designs can be stolen and you would spend your life in court. See the movie "Joy"? It's not worth it!
Ideas are in the air to be picked up by anyone on the same vibratory frequency. You can't NOT THINK!

I have no doubt some inventions were a progression of others ideas or prototypes, but he was still a genius in his own right.

Ed, idea-theft is why we now have laws to protect "intellectual property". But you don't have to paten them anymore, you can just get a copyright. When you copyright your ideas, you own them, and you can sell them if anyone's interested in buying them, and you can sue people for using them without your permission and/or without paying you for them.

Yes, I think you can sue for up to $10,000. (That's what it used to be. It may have changed)
Attorney's fees would probably be that much.

A person is not limited to 10,000 in statutory damages. That aside, Actual damages can be prayed for, no limit, but proof is hard to even minimize such.

Yes, I've seen 3 of my ideas around. 2 in the grocery stores, and 1 in the post office.

In fact, I just checked my files to see if I still had the letters I wrote and sent saved, Can't find 'em.
I've got 1 more place to look........
