Paul Whelan.

Whelan was court-martialed for and found guilty of larceny, using someone else's SS number, and writing bad checks, but somehow became director of global security and investigations for BorgWarner. How does that work? :unsure:

I live in an area with loads of immigrants, mostly Russian & Ukrainian. Several of the young men joined our services and after completion I would occasionally get visits from FBI, interviewing me as to their character. A few times I got into conversations afterwards, so this is how I know.

He didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge. He was given a punitive discharge. I was in the Corps for 30 years. There is a big difference between the two, depending on which punitive discharge he received. There are 2 types of punitive discharges. I’m not in the know as to which one he was given.

Technically, he received a Bad Conduct Discharge, which is not honorable, so that makes it dishonorable without the capitalized 'D'.

The difference may be important to you, but to most folks, you are either honorably discharge, and thank you for your serve, or you were not, and the differences of "not" just don't matter. He was booted out, less than honorable. End of story.

It is proper and respectful to address our Marines this way. It is by no means a derogatory term.

My husband is a Former Marine as were many of the men that I worked with over the years.

Further, serving in any of the armed forces of this country gives you American citizenship.

Conflicting viewpoints have made things complicated.
I'd certainly never want to disrespect anyone who served/discharged honorably, but never heard the 'once a Marine always a Marine' til a few years ago.
 
Whelan may not be perfect but Bout has and probably will be responsible for killing many innocent people. The following is quoted from an article on justthenews.com.

I don't throw out the message just because I don't like the messenger. I like to hear different viewpoints - I may learn something. I know I don't know everything.

I just applied for a position overseas for $83K a month in an industry I know nothing about and where I don't speak the language.........I didn't get around to asking about perks yet.
