Paving Driveway

Most of these door to door contractors are scammers, don't let them scam you Deb. Lots of stories on the news about how they take people's money and leave town. If I need work done, I do my own research and schedule an appointment with a reputable company.....only way to do it.

This has happened to us often. They come to your door soliciting to do your driveway and make it sound like a great deal. They say that they are in the area anyway since they are doing xyz driveways down the road with the suggestion that they will have some extra asphalt which they will give you an extra good deal on BUT it never is. It’s basically a scam. The fact that it’s still quite cold out means it will take forever to dry and a better possibility of you getting unwanted tracks in it from others. I think it’s best to wait for the warmer weather when there’s more competition so you can get a better price and it will set properly.

I had a couple guys come to my house once with the "we're working at a neighbors and have extra asphalt" scam. I asked "what's the neighbors name?" "Umm, we're not sure." Then I asked why I would hire a company that does such a poor job estimating material needs that they have enough "extra" asphalt to do my 1,200 foot long drive. All I got was blank stares. Then I got unfriendly.

We had a long driveway to and my exact thoughts were ‘you guys must be really suck at doing this if you have enough asphalt left over to do our driveway.

I wouldn't have opened my door except that I saw the utility truck parked at the end of the driveway. I thgought at first it was a DPW vehicle and sometimes thay send a man around to alert residents of a disruption. That happened at my other house when they were doing sewer work and advised the affected homeowners not to flush toilets or run water for a few hours And again when they turned water off to work on the hydrants.

I also thought it suspicious when, after the advance man was her about 20 minutes, another truck with a utility cart pulled up and the guy ran out to it. Probably one of his buddies checking on if he had made a sale. I closed the door and they both eventually left.

I do exactly the same.
A few years ago we had bad hail damage on our roof, along with many neighbors, we had our roof redone. Around a month later some joker with a ladder in his truck rang my bell and started talking to me while looking up at my roof with concern. He said my roof looked really bad and damaged, and that would cause expensive damage to the house. He could go up and look around, and give me an extimate.

Needless to say, I jumped his $hit, told him my roof was brand new and that he was a thief and a scammer. I told he to get the hell out of my neighborhood, and shut the door. He took off very quickly, these people crawl the cities and suburbs looking for trusting 'marks' to take advantage of and steal from. We need a lot more people to be wiser like you and I regarding these conmen.

...another big scam along the same lines as the roof and drive scammers are the tree trimmers.. . They trawl the streets looking for houses who have big trees and shrubs.. as mine does. Then they offer to cut them back.. cash only.... . They start off with an affordable estimated price.. and end up charging the home owner.. usually a woman on her own or an elderly couple.. a fortune.

Since I've had my Video ring doorbell, I've only once had a knock on the door from a scammer.. and he rang the bell, and stood right at the end of the drive.. thinking my video couldn't capture him..it could and it did, including his truck .. but I just didn't open the door.

I heard back. She replied that it is a legitimate paving company. Still sets my alarm bells off when they show up unsolicited looking for a job
Just because they’re legitimate, that doesn’t mean they do good work, as evidenced by your online search.

We had similar people wanting to pave driveways at the end of the day because they had leftover product or some other story like a job was cancelled. Basically, poor product and pushy salesmen.
