I know this probably isn't new to some areas but I got the notice from Pacific Gas & Electric. This won't do much good with air conditioning use in the summer because they know people use the AC.

This corporation is evil and I've noticed electrical going up. I'll see what this does to my bills. I'm conservative with the AC leaving it on 81 or so all summer.

I'll be sure not to run the dishwasher, washer or dryer (which I don't use much in the summer) during those hours.

Maybe, but there is logic to pricing electricity this way. The most efficient and lowest cost way to produce electricity is at a constant rate 24 hours a day. Producing more in the afternoon and evenings and less in the night and morning is less efficient and costs the power company more money.

This kind of variable pricing has long been applied to big commercial users, it only makes sense for residential as well.

For people that work 9-5 jobs, this is bad timing. You’re likely making dinner, laundry, etc.

When I visit my daughters in Ontario, I have to postpone doing some chores that I’d do for them. I wasn’t supposed to run the dishwasher, (don’t tell them, but I ran it.)

I won't! :) I was thinking this would have been great when I worked PM shift although I do leave the AC on for the cats even when not home of coarse. When we have had real hot days, I've put it up to 83. They just lounge all day. 83 isn't bad.

You should check into how much money the CEO of your Pacific Gas & Electric makes in pay, bonuses, stocks and other fringe benefits. You might be surprised. If you doubt what I'm saying, please get a copy and read, "Pigs At The Trough" by Arianna Huffington; an American author. I'm reading it right now and I'll tell you its a real eye opener and very educational.

I can only imagine. I'll look into the book but I'm not sure I want to get that mad. This is the corporation of coarse that burned down the town of Paradise, California and more.

I know some people love corporations. I get the idea of profit. But it turns into insane blind greed. And it causes death and horrible damage.

California and Texas seem to have the most troubles with their electrical grids and services. The people in those states should be "lobbying" for better management of those resources. There shouldn't be any reason, in this nation, why anyone should have to be without, or "price gouged" on electricity...other than a short, storm related outage.
