That is a lovely peony.
I never had much luck with growing them but I love the beautiful
and scented blooms.

I love peonies! They can last more than 50 years. I had two groups of them by my front door years ago and the fragrance is just amazing! They need to be staked as the rain will lay them low. The single varieties are just as lovely as the doubles, imo.

At my former house, there were peony bushes all along the driveway when we first moved in. The second winter we were there was a bad one and the peonies never came back after that.

The peony is the state flower of Indiana. It was common to see them in our neighborhood and some of the old people pronounced them "pineys".

I have one planted in large pot. It has already bloomed for the year. That's a beautiful picture.

I planted many peonies at our other house and I miss the look and scent of them. They do smell wonderful. I had to stake mine up. I had them about 20 years. Here I have no garden. I’m starting gardens this year with lots of hummingbird influence.

Someone told me once that peonies need ants to open the buds, so if I cut the flowers to bring inside, shake them off well.
