people are nuts..convo on Nextdoorapp

I'm on our Next Door app. I like reading the comments and checking out the things people sell. I have never read a back and forth argument, but a few have been close. It seems like whoever gets the jab will just drop it and let it go. That ends the conversation. Not everyone has the ability to do that.

I got a really good deal on a set of golf clubs.

I was invited to join Nextdoor by my next door neighbors, who live in a "community". These people have way too much time on their hands. You just wouldn't believe all the chatter when a police car was spotted on Spring Street. Talk about a crime wave!!!!! And the world is going to hell, because someone left their trash container one whole day AFTER collection day. I think President Biden should be made aware of this. Most of the traffic is childish nit-picking nonsense.
When you see the inane fighting over trivial BS, you appreciate Matrix for keeping that out of S.F.

it's true.. I always think that App is the home of the snowflake.. everything and anything sets them off to be offended, and where half of them learn what's going on so quickly I'll never know.. .. still handy for important local issues tho'..

Can’t stop laughing. Here thousands and thousands of miles away our next door is exactly like that right down to the ineffective police dept! I don’t get into the fights. I do post some information type things occasionally.
it is good as a source of some kinds of public information tho.

it just shows doesn't it.. that regardless of the country.. or the language, people are people whatever their nationality

I find the Nextdoor app quite useful despite flaws, especially in this telecom era that can make a difference. The app is continually being updated for improvements and ways it it won't be abused. Not perfect, but otherwise fills an immense void in our modern urban worlds traditional media like newspapers are not structured or timely enough to be able to fill. It is true in some areas because of it localized structure, that there are serious issues and that is the result of people both running such in those areas and the members there. In essence the value of the app is highly dependent on how local members and moderators use it.

There will always be numbers of members that annoyingly disrupt threads because its use is so open. There are and have always been many people with poor limited communication skills, flawed illogical thinking processes, and political agendas. In my upscale urban area, we have enough clear logical thinking members that such people are soon exposed. Expect such bitter members are also more likely to be critical and make fun of the app and what people post.

I first became a member of our local community when the pandemic began about April 2020. Our county was the first in the nation to create official government directives like shelter in place, masking, and social distancing. At that time, there was a long emotional thread ongoing but going no where, about those on paved exercise paths like runners, joggers, walkers, and bicyclist not wearing masks. Our directive specifically related those exercising so need not wear masks outdoors though interpreting the directive required careful reading that even some TV reporters got wrong. I analyzed the directive language and on Nextdoor explained such in understandable language that ended that controversy locally though not a few remained bitter their point of view had been crushed.

One of the most important subjects of discussion revolves around rampant property crimes by some homeless, especially crack pipe users, and those thieves in other counties that drive in, often using stolen vehicles with stolen license plates. After posting for months about the need to place Automated License Plate Readers, aka ALPR's, on primary streets and highways, there is now a dominant consensus that has gained enough traction that a number of local cities have or are moving in that direction despite former libertarian civil rights objections that had many hesitant. Read any of the weekly reports on the below link to understand what such crimes are about. Just not in San Francisco that makes national news. The common Nextdoor criticism is police do nothing. Actually it is more often the judges, ethnic community advocates, and politicians afraid of them that fail to follow through after arrests. That tide is turning even in San Francisco with the new DA Jenkins now scaring the heck out of poor advocates and the ACLU.

Below is an example minus names and locations of a current NextDoor input I made:
-------------------
(me David) I Amazon ordered the below linked cheap $9.49 set of anti-theft license plate screws, then installed them on my 2007 Forester. Of course, there has in recent years been a considerable increase in thieves stealing license plates that they then place on stolen vehicles they then use while committing crimes so those vehicles cannot be easily identified. Much reported here on Nextdoor.

There are several products being offered with similar kits. This product has a License plate security 3/4 inch screw with a button head 5 lobe driver design on an M6 Torx head.

https://www.amazon.com/VIGRUE-Stainless-Fasteners-Resistant-Security/dp/B08HD1CM6J/ref=sr_1_3

I noticed most products just have parts for a single plate using 4 mounting screws. The above kit had parts for 5 machine type screws plus another 5 Torx bolts with washer and nuts. That is because some license plates use screws for the top 2 mounts and bolts for the lower 2. The kit has a wrench and several other parts I didn't use apparently for different plate mount styles.

My Forester rear plate uses 4 machine type screws and the front plate 2 machine type screw at top and no screws for the bottom that due to the curved bumper is meant to hang in space.

After removing and washing my 2 plates, for the rear plate that importantly has one's annual registration sticker, I used 3 of the machine type screws with the plastic black covers and then one of my old Phillips head screws plus a cover for the last mount. One only needs a single theft resistant screw holding a plate to making removal a nuisance.

For the front plate, used 2 of the machine type screws with the plastic black covers. Instead of using the bolts, I bent my plate slightly for the bumper curvature and drilled holes in my plastic bumper I then used 2 old Phillips head screws with the plastic black covers for those bottom mount holes.

One can expect as more vehicle owners use such hardware that thieves will soon be carrying their own wrenches making this strategy limited. So for that, I then filled the Torx heads with Gorilla Glue that also flowed onto the black caps making those 2 plastic parts also glue together. Thus a thief would need to use say diagonal cutters to remove the black plastic caps and then dig out the hardened glue on each head. Something possible given tools, acetone, and time I doubt any would bother with given easy nearby pickings. Few of we vehicle owners are ever going to need to replace plates so the glue is of no concern.

(GM) I was just thinking about getting such kit myself. This is a nice one. Thanks for taking your time to share the link and suggestions!

(RV) There's also a wrap style license plate. Works great for Tesla front bumper. No help for the stolen back plate, but really cool.

(RV) Nice, I had no idea. Another way is QuickBandit removable frame. Not cheap, but can be quickly mounted and taken down when needed. https://shop.teslarati.com/products/tesla-model-y-front-license-plate-mount-bracket

(PB) The bad guys will already have the special tool to remove the license plate as it's less than $10.

well in truth we have a lot of very helpful suggestions here also .. .. but equally some people are like I said in the Intro.. just NUTS!!

Generally if the first or second responder to an OP make a negative or smart ass comment, the majority will follow. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a thread where some AH didn’t make a comment.

exactly.. and the same happens on every forum I've ever been on including this one..

I’m on Nextdoor for my neighborhood, and also the Facebook group for same.

I check them both out once a day, just a quick glance at the subjects to see if there’s anything I’m interested in or that I want to pay attention to. Occasionally I’ll read comments if there are a bunch of them on a particular topic, but I’ll read for amusement purposes only 😂 because mostly they’re ridiculous.

Less often I’ll post. I did a couple weeks back because there was a building going up on the commercial section of my neighborhood and I couldn’t for the life of me find out what it was. I found out it was a Whataburger, and I was disappointed, I hoped it was something other than food or yet another mattress store lol.

But here’s the thing. That was two weeks ago, and I got my answer within the first two responses. Yet all this time later and the tread is STILL being responded to! Folks’ opinions about whataburger, reviews about the menu, what else they wanted to see instead, rude comments about why the previous person liked the burgers, where the other whataburger is…and on and on. 🤦🏼‍♀️
That happens on the group on fb for scanner nerds. They fight among themselves so much that someone went and made another group with almost the same name. Same people on it but it is monitored better. Right now they are discussing a new restaurant here, Dickey's Barbecue in the same way. It is supposed to be about scanner calls.

I can't speak for what law enforcement is like in other countries, each has their own and each is different, whether you are satisfied with the job yours does or just complain.
