People Hard of Hearing

Why is it that the people that are hard of hearing and can't hear what you're saying and keep asking you to repeat, are then offended when you shout?
My mom is deaf now. I and my whole family has offered to buy her hearing aids and have offered them for years since hearing loss became an issue for her but she's in her nineties and refuses any such gifts. Pride? It's expense but she doesn't understand she is loved and this is why we offer.

So everybody in the family has to repeat everything they say and stand in front of her while they do it so she can read lips. I never get tired of repeating myself to her because I think how much worse it must be for her.
As a music lover I would hate never to be able to hear my favorite songs again, or someone's voice. It's just so sad and unnecessary.

I have a relative who wouldn’t wear them because he said they made him look old. He’s almost 90 now and in a wheel chair. He is wearing them! Guess he got old enough.

I'm not hard of hearing, but so many times my husband and I will be driving down the expressway and he'll have the window open and be talking to me while looking out the window. I have to constantly say "what?" and he'll repeat still looking out the window. So I say "what?" again. He get annoyed and says, "You're going deaf, you need to get your hearing checked!". I tell him it's not my hearing, but his voice is going right out the window. I get so tired of this scenario, over and over.

I'm a beewax machine with my ears. Absolute nightmare... Until recently!

I usually went to GP for ear syringe but it would be back lickety split. Argh!

Nowadays, I also am plagued with dry skin and itchy ears. After trying all my tips and tricks in my wee BOS, I gave up and decided to try Specsavers audiologist services.

Got my ears vacuum cleaned. Wow! Absolutely lovely experience. She showed me the wee wax candle which came out of my right ear (the one that had been bothering for so long - I felt like Shrek lol!)

I recommend this service, I've now less tinitus and I've been able to reduce the volume on Tele from 10 to 5. If you're feeling packed and getting hard to hear, give them a try, you won't regret it.

I agree with Mizmo. It does take the brain longer to register the words especially if they are spoken too quickly. Louder does NOT mean better clarity. Best to face the person and speak plainly and clearly. Can you imagine someone speaking loudly while laughing and you are laughing too but you have no idea what the just said. I still use captions for tv because I would never be able to keep up with the speech.
With me it isn't the volume but the enunciation. It also helps if you are facing me. I think we all read lips to some degree.

My wife said I need hearing aids. I told her, "What for, I don't even wear earrings!"

Seriously, I have lost hearing and sometimes have a difficult time on the phone. No longer hear those deer approaching when I am hunting. But otherwise, I don't realize that I have a hearing loss as it approaches so gradually.
