People squat down, then just stand up

I can squat down and can't get up, too. It's especially annoying in a store. I had my cart, had to look for something on a lower shelf. Ohnuts. Couldn't get up. Grabbed my cart to hang onto. Nope. It's moving away, so I sit on the floor and try and crawl over to something stable so I can pull myself up. Now people are looking and i just say, "I dropped my keyes". They just smile and keep shopping. Finally I find an end display I can hang onto and slowly get up. Now I have to pee.
 
Thought I'd try that squat & stand, no problem at all. Tried 10 more times still bounce right back up. Awhile back I think there was a thread that had a way for seniors to get up from falling or just being down for whatever reason. I've tried that & it works really good. I think that info also had a video of a Canadian nurse showing the technique used. If anyone remembers that advice I think a few of the posters here could use that.

Sure sounds great, if one is good at squatting.
I do not know about that advice either, if some one gets distracted they could swallow their toothbrush and fall down.
I understand why you did not read the article.
 
I do about 15 squats most every day to keep things in working order, however, I have found that there's a difference between doing squats in repetition and squatting down for 30 seconds or more, and then back to upright position. There's something about the momentum when it's done it repetition that's different than when you stop in the down position. I guess the muscles relax more when you pause.
 
Well I can still do squats & able to touch my toes with knees straight. Approaching 70 years old in a few months so I'm happy I can still do this. Sometimes there is slight discomfort in my knees but I am ok with that. I exercise daily so I believe that helps with my flexibility
 
Yeah I can still squat then stand, and get up off the floor without support.

I do a sit-to-stand exercise daily and that helps keep my quads, glutes, and hamstrings strong.

I also do a variety of balance exercises when I’m waiting in line at stores. Without support, stand on one leg then the other, go up on my toes repeatedly, kick one leg out to the side and back, that sort of thing.

I park far away from whatever store or place I have to go into so that I’m doing a lot of walking just as part of my day.

They’re just little things, but at my age a little goes a long way.
 
There are chair based exercises that can help seniors regain strength and the ability to squat. Squatting is very important for mobility and balance.

Yesterday I did a simple leg workout, 5 sets / 10 reps deep barbell squats. My legs and butt are a little sore, but in a good way.

I also sit in a squatting position everyday for a minimum of 30 minutes, usually while outside hanging out with my beloved last surviving chicken who is 11 years old❤️. Since February Trixie has been laying 4 or 5 eggs a week(y).
