Pepper spray or pepper gel

Being a senior and walking with my dogs, I have been threatened repeatedly by stray or runaway dogs. I am too old to break up a dog fight. So, pepper spray/gel has been a life saver for me. Well, at least it prevented me and my dogs from serious injuries. I rarely spray a dog directly. The odor in the air is usually sufficient to have an oncoming dog with raised fur making a 180 degree turn. I wouldn't dare to go on a walk without that protection. P.S., gel reaches further and stays better on target in windy conditions.

That's why I so appreciate good owners. I know there's times dogs get loose, but ultimately the owner is responsible.

My big guy was an enthusiastic escape artist, till I house broke him and brother. After that, they never escaped again.

I've never heard of pepper gel, off to look it up

I have a small spray that I carry for coyotes, stray aggressive dogs, or threatening people. Thankfully, I've never had to use it. I am concerned on windy days about the spray going into my eyes or my dog's eyes, instead of the attacker. Never saw the gel and know nothing about it, but sounds interesting.

I have not needed to use it, but have seen my former business partner use hers, when we were on a hike. Some rowdy large breed dogs were becoming aggressive towards her dog that was walking with us. She pointed the stick at the dogs and triggered it to emit a wicked sounding crackle, which caused the dogs to back off.

I didn't know there was such a thing as pepper spray gel ! I wonder if it solves the problem of spraying when it's windy. That's something someone definitely does not want to do when using regular pepper spray! It's nice that you consider the safety of the oncoming dogs even while protecting you and yours.

I never heard of pepper spray, my old dog as been attacked 7 times , on the last occasion 2 dogs escaped from a garden ran down the street , flipped my dog over and tore into her belly then one got her by the neck and the other went for her back end .
I very rarely go out by myself with her now ,it left me shaken and nervous.. I wait till my son comes with his car and takes us into the countryside away from any other dog ,
But theres still occasions when theres dog walkers ,I start to get panic .
 
I carry pepper spray. I am out in nature almost daily and have seen coyotes and dogs off leash.
I’ve also had a few times where men have tried to get me into their car, so I got some. I’ve never had to use it and hope I never will.
