Pfizer CEO cashes out 60% of stock day of vaccine announcement

Fauci says "Don't bother with masks; they are useless, then "A mask protects you & others."
Wise people question.

That's what a scientist does, Win. They study the available data, and report the LATEST demonstrable findings based on that data. And as the data changes, very often so do their conclusions and recommendations. They also usually admit that the old findings are outdated, and sometimes that they are wrong.

So if Fauci said back in March that there is no reason to wear masks, and now is saying the opposite, good for him! He is showing us what a good scientist does: always testing, flexible in his conclusions, admitting when he was wrong.

My only criticism of him would be that maybe he was a little premature with that March pronouncement, as the disease was so new, and obviously not enough was known then about mask wearing. But now we do have the evidence that masks make an enormous difference. I saw on today's news that if you wear a mask outside of your home all the time, you are 70% less likely to get Covid 19!

Now that's a number I can live with!

And if he made that decision on insider information?
I would be surprised if he didn’t have inside information. Any CEO that owns stock in his company and wishes to sell some of it, must file a form ( not sure of the number) with the SEC at least 2 days prior to the sell of the stock.

I'm sure the Pfizer CEO has "inside information"....they All do. The way this path to a vaccine is being rushed, I wouldn't be surprised if he has some concerns about possible side effects, etc., and is probably taking this move to protect some of his wealth if things go badly, and the price of his stock plummets.

Yeah, and the rest of the stockholders can be left holding the bag.

This is causing some controversy. I would note that the CEO filed a sale-of-stock plan back in August and these sales were previously scheduled.

All CEOs have inside information. Most companies encourage their senior management to buy stock. But the rules about when you can sell are pretty strict.

I agree, its probably the way most business people work to maximise their profits, or limit exposure when stocks fall, (assuming its within the rules on insider trading?). They're business people not charities after all, and those buying the stock are assuming they'll go higher, (and of course charities manage their holding in their own best interests too).

Exactly.

I would suggest the CEO cashing in his stock may have nothing to do with any possible side effects, but the likelihood other similarly effective vaccines, as this one is claimed to be, are likely to be becoming available soon as well, thus competition may be the simplest explanation, though you'd hope being first into the market will still give Pfizer's an advantage.
