This year, I switched my health insurance to a different Advantage plan through a different company (Humana). I phoned in my first (90 day) refill of the year on a prescription I take every month, which is a Tier 1 drug. I understood that Tier 1 drugs are 100% covered, but the pharmacy sent a message to my phone that the prescription was ready and the total price would be $22.85.
I called the pharmacy to question this, and she told me they used a "prescription discount card," not Humana. I do not know why they would do that - I had already given them my new insurance information last month. She found it, and and while I was on hold, she ran it through my insurance, and said it was covered at no charge to me.
So, if you have changed your insurance, and get a charge you don't expect, you may want to question it with your pharmacy. [In my case, the pharmacy is Walmart.]
