Phil Donahue has died

I lived in the Dayton area when his show was just getting started, met him one time and had a long talk with his producer when she spoke at a class at Wright State University. I just loved him, his show taught me about so many things I hadn't been aware of and he was a leader in the feminist movement of the early 70's.

Oprah quote: "He was the first to acknowledge that women are interested in more than mascara tips and cake recipes — that we're intelligent, we're concerned about the world around us and we want the best possible lives for ourselves."

Phil Donahue was one of the few talk show hosts at the time who addressed tough topics like religion, war and sexuality. As someone who was gay, his was the only show where I could actually see other gay men and hear the various sides of the argument. At times I cringed but it was educational.

RIP Phil. And good thoughts to his incredible wife, Marlo Thomas.

Sad to hear of his passing. I've always admired his wife, Marlo Thomas, who carried on her father's legacy supporting St. Jude Children's Hospital. Many young lives have been saved through their efforts.
One of my preferred charities to donate to when possible.
What's really scary I seem to remember when Marlo Thomas was single and when she and Phil got together it was how did that happen. Over 40 years married which is feat in itself.
