Very sad that the greatest living American novelist died at 85.

He was one of my favorite authors of serious fiction.

He won many book prizes but not the Nobel Prize that he deserved.

Wish I could have met him.

I was a senior in high school when I read "Portnoys Complaint"...it was very scandalous for the time but if I read it now, probably wouldn't phase me.

I have forgotten most of the story except for one section. :) I read a few of his other books..."Goodbye, Columbus" comes to mind.

RIP!

I grew up in Philip Roth's neighborhood, the Weequahic section of Newark, NJ, and very much enjoyed reading his descriptions of life in that neighborhood in those days. He captured the ambiance very well in his stories.

I never read Philip Roth. I started one of his books one time but was interrupted and never got back to it.
