Phony Parking Ticket Scam

Scammers place phony but authentic-appearing parking tickets on vehicles. Those tickets then direct victims to authentic-looking payment websites and sometimes contain QR code to for people to pay that way.

Not only do they get the victims' money, they now have their checking account or debit/credit card information.

While this scam apparently started in California a couple of years ago, it's now spread nationwide.

Best advice I've found is to go on the local government's official website — not the site listed on the ticket and definitely not the QR code — to verify the ticket is legitimate before proceeding.

Yes this has been getting reported on our neighbourhood App for the the last few months ... the fake ones are almost identical to the genuine ones.. so it's imperitive that people check it out thoroughly before paying.

The thing is they panic people into paying quickly by stating a fine will be levied..or a payment will double if not paid within a short time... but its really important people double check it's genuine and not panic...
