Photos of my visit to a historic Mansion and gardens , yesterday

It was 90 deg plus.. but I went yesterday because half the country was at the coast on this holiday week , so I knew it would be quiet...

Back story...

This is the house, it;s very famous in the UK.. it's a huge landed gentry property..very old always being constantly worked on, and the bigest Rock concerts outside of stadiums are held in these grounds.. The grounds are 250 acres, of manicured lawns and some small woodland.. Massively well known bands, Rolling stones, The Who, Iron maiden Oasis, Deep Purple. Black Sabbath you name it.. they've played here...

It's used a lot by tv and film production foor location filming...


They also have drive in Movies as well... several times a year

It's just a short drive from where I live ...about 20 minutes or so...

I didn't pay to go into the house because I've seen it all before, so I just paid to see all the gardens, which have a Maze, and in the wooded area, a great big exhibition of prehistoric animals, especially great for the children to see and learn, of which there was a few as I went round, who were very excited to see it all..

The Rear of the house.... the tower in the left hand corne with the guide sitting outside has 55 steep steps to reach the top.... needless to say i didn't go in..

Going up the steps in the last picture and looking over the rear wall brings us to another lawn where in one corner is the family church, and in another is the archery club...

Continuing on into the gardens and woodland...

this is the entrance to the walled garden

walk through this pergola takes you to the Maze...

the great thing about Knebworth is that it caters for all ages.. especially the children in the woodland... and you have all the dinosaurs, as well as things like this.. which when you turn the handle make the song of all the various species of birds which live in the woods, and the kids can spot the birds by their song as they walk around

then there's a medieval wooden xylophone, which is great fun to play...it's really quite a big instrument..

Altho' clearly they can't make the prehistoric exhibits as big as they were in reality... they'd done a good job in making them huge enough for children to see how massive they were. Some of the exhibits are about 20 feet hight... and or long...

Holly, you are wonderful to share all of these super pictures with us.

It's the sort of place I'd like to meander around, but my meandering days are over now..... and, you've saved me more than a few bob in entrance fees, plus all the hassle of travelling.

Oh what i forgot to post was the little small museum area where they keep lots of photos, posters, paraphernalia, press cuttings... in a dark room... of bands , TV shows, Films.. etc who have played there in the past

a lot of it is under glass so excuse the reflections...
