Physical attractiveness and equality negatively related (in men)

Bodily attractiveness and egalitarianism are negatively related in men they say, (I'm lucky that I've got both of these in spades, ..., or so I think?):

"Our results show an underappreciated role that attractiveness may play as a predictor of egalitarianism in men"

I have experienced this my entire life. Looks always win out over anything else. Try being a red-head with big ears and freckles. All the girls laugh at you and all the guys want to beat you up. People talk about racial discrimination... bull. I got hassled from whites, Hispanics, blacks, Asians, Native Americans.... And as an adult it was just as bad. "If I look like Howdy Doody how can I do that $70K a year job. I must be stupid." I'm a damn good guitarist, but I sure lost a lot of gigs to the "cute guys" that had "the look" even though they weren't that great of players. They were pretty, so they were ticket sellers. Not me. I have some kind of woman repellant. And women have it as bad too. It's all part of that fairness thread. Life isn't.

Well said though I think maybe younger ginger headed guys are having a better time of it lately, (at least here in the UK).
I admit though I used to be concerned as a young man when some ginger used to appear in my beard, and was relieved when I grew a long beard in my thirties it had all turned dark brown/black, so yes there was plenty of prejudice then to concern folks with ginger hair.
I admit too I find something off putting about those who make "equality" their mantra nowadays, (I think we all end up the same when this is taken too far, and that's boring isn't it!).

More on attractiveness:

Quote:
"A recent survey (2018) revealed that a large number of people who date include pictures of themselves with other people such as their friends and family. Indeed, some 18% of all pictures uploaded include people in the company of others. Showing yourself with someone else certainly conveys the impression that you are socially skilled and competent, and comfortable in the company of others, but does it benefit you in other ways?

In one study, they asked participants to rate the physical attractiveness of images of people’s faces either when alone or as part of a group, and found that people are judged as more attractive when they are viewed as part of a group than when alone (2013). This is called the cheerleader effect and is explained by the fact that people tend to rate the average attractiveness level of a group of faces higher than they rate each face individually. In other words, there is an assimilation effect, with faces appearing within a group of faces being rated as closer to the average appraisal for the group as a whole."

Quote:
"Despite research on social consequences, exactly what it is that makes a face beautiful remains poorly defined. One of the major deterrents in determining the features of an attractive face lies in the widespread belief that standards of attractiveness are learned gradually through exposure to culturally presented ideals (e.g. through the media in Western society) and this has also led to a general belief that cultures vary dramatically in what they perceive to be attractive. If this were true, it would mean that attractiveness is arbitrary and what is beautiful now could, in a different time or place, be considered unattractive. The well-known phrase ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ is a testament to our belief that attractiveness is ephemeral. For example, the philosopher David Hume is often quoted for making the argument that beauty, ‘is no quality in things themselves: it exists merely in the mind which contemplates them; and each mind contemplates a different beauty’.

Darwin was also struck by cultural differences, such as those evident in preferences for skin colour, body hair and body fat, and those revealed in practices such as lip ornamentation and teeth filing, ‘It is certainly not true that there is in the mind of man any universal standards of beauty with respect to the human body’ (Darwin cited by. Such convictions were supported by early cross-cultural work by Ford & Beach who catalogued differences between cultures in preferences for body weight, breast size and other aspects of female physique and suggested little consensus."

It's a sad fact that, while there are loads of attractive women, there are few good-looking men. This is why the few handsome ones think they are God's gift.
One of the myths which men believe is that all women love muscles. This is simply not true. I find the Hugh Jackman type rather grotesque. Give me a man with intelligence and nice manners any day. I want a man I can have a conversation with, not someone who would look good as wallpaper.

Did you folks also have a "Kick A Ginger Day" there when you were younger?

I find interesting how quickly homo sapiens facial attractiveness has evolved in areas where kingdoms arose versus areas of hunter gatherers where mate attractiveness has obviously been far less a factor versus mere ability to survive in specific difficult Earth environments. On that note, it is the attractiveness of women that in such kingdoms controlled by most powerful men, that have evolved most. Particularly so for those Caucasians where small groups would be much less successful long term to survive alone in difficult, colder, northern temperate climates. Current gross estimates are that a genetic line of homo sapiens arose around 60,000 years ago from northeastern Africa then dispersed across the planet including some inter-mating with earlier hominids that due to gradual dilution were eliminated. Amazing how beautiful the faces of some lines of women have become. Anthropologists have also shown with science that even our most isolated remote native people without outside contacts remarkably share most of the same preferences for facial attractiveness.

As I have speculated elsewhere, I suspect Earth is a biological zoo of an ancient advanced race of intelligent entities. I say "entities" because using recent science logic, that is more likely to be at least mostly non-organic versus DNA organic. As such, will speculate that at that time such entities returned to Earth and through breeding, developed modern era homo sapiens. And then within say 10,000 years of today again directly enhanced a limited line of homo sapiens for the special purpose of say tending their "gardens". That is where Adam and Eve came in whose descendants lived for hundreds of years until by Noah's time due to genetic DNA dilution returned to lifetimes similar to the rest of humans. On that note, Adam and Eve were NOT the first people, the earliest primitive man created Old Testament mistake, the intelligent entities have probably for many millennia laughed at.

I wonder how many people picked up on your self defeating attitude and that is what they were turned off by?

I've always been attracted to red-headed men :)

There are doubtless some incredible revelations to be uncovered, along with the vast amount already known about human evolution, and characteristics of all kinds aiding our survival.

I don't think my SDA was developed until it was researched and tested under multiple scenarios for the most accurate conclusions which were also tested by independent sources and extrapolated from personal experience and anecdotal evidence over an extended period of years. I also don't believe you know me well enough to have formed an accurate opinion on exactly what my attitude is or how it affected me based solely on a response to a message board question on the internet. But thank you for the constructive criticism. I'm sure it will prove helpful in the future. :)

I disagree. There are loads of good-looking men with intelligence and manners. They mostly already belong to some good woman.

I didn't mean to sound rude. I apologize if it did.

Doing my teen years I didn't have a problem with being physically attractive but one of my friends did & asked me for some help. It was especially bad in the summer during swimming season. But this friend was dumb beyond belief in taking advice.

He wanted to know how to get girls to notice him. I told him to get an Idaho potato & put it down his swim suit. He said he did and the girls couldn't get away from him fast enough. He showed me, I couldn't help but to laugh. He asked why I was laughing.

I explained to him the potato was supposed to go down the front of his swim suit.

my thoughts on red haired/auburn colored males. My brother in law was a red head,
my nephew as well, my first love those years ago had red hair, all of them were nice
looking...

in their much younger years, there were some who poked fun at them for their hair
color. I was definitely not one of them.

Oh we women are such a blessing, aren't we? Superficial and caring only about how we look and how much money we have, right? They do say 'behind every great man is a great woman', right? How many men do you think would be in our shoes if they had the choice, in the days of old? But seriously, let's analyze the situation.

If a more attractive person is more successful, what does this say about the success of other more unattractive people? It's pretty obvious that not being good-looking makes you a failure, especially in a society where beauty is a prized value. In a way, this is superficial and shows that beauty is everything.

But then again, when you look past the skin-deep differences, you realize that all of us are just humans. I'm sure we've all met an attractive person who is also an ass, and we've also met unattractive people who are really nice, good people. Looks aren't everything, they really aren't, and we shouldn't judge people based on that.
