I usually wake up at midnight for a potty call so, I guess, technically I will be upStaying in. My building is doing a party..but earlier in the evening, not for midnight. I probably will not attend. I rarely stay up until midnight any more.
Thank you, officerripley.Irwin, so sorry for the tough times you and you wife are going through. I hope she can come home soon; I'm holding good thoughts for you both. Happy New year.
Everybody parties on my birthday! I will be fast asleep. I was born 11:45pm on the 31st. Before she died I told my mother I wished she could have waited 15 minutes to have me so I could be a New Year's baby. After 9 months she said she had had enough being pregnant and was ready for it to be over!Early Happy Birthday Terry...that is kind of a cool day for a B-Day..You start your next year the night before everyone starts a new year!
Sounds fun!!!, butYou're right. In order just to get into Times Square, you have to be there about 8 PM ( That was in 2000, today you camp out the day before). It's a TV event. When the cameras are on you, you yell and scream, otherwise you stand there. But it's weird, you get to know your neighbors, and it becomes a big family. When the camera lights come on, you have to jump, and yell- hey come on, it's show biz. And it does become fun. Been twice would love to go again.

I enjoyed your post!I usually don't go out for New Year's, not like I used to when I was younger.
Now, on New Year's Eve, my son and I will watch the celebration on TV, and at midnight I jump up and flicker the lights for a few seconds yelling "HAPPY NEW YEAR!!" over and over again. Yes, you can call me a little crazy, but it's fun! We also have a tradition of preparing for New Year's Day by cleaning the house and making sure there's plenty of food in the fridge, and we are clean and asleep in clean clothes (I don't know who made that tradition, but that's what it is, a tradition).
New Year's Greek Traditions:
For the Greeks, we not only celebrate New Year's Day, but St. Basil's day. St. Basil the Great was a saint, and was known for his kindness and generosity. He would bake bread and put coins in it to give to the poor. We bake a New Year's braided sweet bread on New Year's Eve called a "Vassilopita" (St. Basil's bread) that has a coin (usually a quarter wrapped in aluminum) inside it. Then on New Year's Day, we slice a hearty piece for each person in the family, and the person who gets the coin has good luck for the whole year! The taste is similar to Challah bread.
Here is more information and a recipe for it: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/24557/vasilopita/
- Often, Greek families put a pomegranate outside the door during Christmas and smash it on New Year's day, and when it bursts open, the more seeds, the better the luck for the year.
- The first person entering the house for the New Year is important. In Greek, it's called the "podariko" and it's important to have a young person or the right person enter the house with their right foot first so they could bring good luck for the New Year.
Our Family Tradition:
On New Year's Day, we will celebrate it like we did on Christmas (pandemic version) - hearty pancake breakfast, nice cooked dinner, play a board game, and watch a movie (usually lighthearted comedy). Play some music and sing some songs. Call family members and wish them Happy New Year.
Wishing all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year 2022!
The last time I was in Times Square was 20 years ago. Back then to get into the actual square, you had to be there at 8PM. Today, you have to be in the Square no later than 8 AM. I don't know how those people do it.Sounds fun!!!, but...,I was also thinking about the bathroom situation...no way could I stand over 4 hours w/o a visit to the bathroom

Going to the BR in NYC is a hassle.I am still wondering about the bathroom situation..can you go find one if necessary??? Oh my goodness 8AM now???
No doubt, but what about the New Year's Eve celebrations...can you leave the area in which you have to wait for the countdown? Years ago I lived in New Brunswick for 9 months and visited NY almost weekly..loved the city!! Very exciting but I only would want to visit, not live there.Going to the BR in NYC is a hassle.
Thank you! Happy New Year!I enjoyed your post!![]()
