I just opened an email to discover the sister of my friend I met on this site ( sorry I can't say who)
was in a bad motorcycle accident on Thursday. They had him in crirical condition and now downgraded to serious condition. It happened when he was riding his motorcycle up in the hills above where he lives. He was riding at night so no one saw what happened, so they weren't sure what caused it. His other brother talked to the police and they said they think there was a deer in the road that he tried not to hit it, going too fast, and he fish-tailed a few times before losing it. Thank God he was wearing his helmet but he wasn't wearing his leathers, just jeans and a t-shirt and his vest, which were shredded.
She said she did not want to show me the pictures of him because they are bad. She said " Just from the picture where you don't see bandages it looks like what little skin he has left is totally black and the parts you can see looks like fresh raw meat. He is not conscious yet and they put him on a respirator. They did surgery for internal bleeding and repair his bladder. They said they might have to do more surgery." She said they saw the bike and said the handlebars are both bent straight forward as though they squeezed between his legs when he flew off the bike. Also alot of other damage so it's obviously was really bad.

So sorry to hear this, BW. My thoughts & prayers are with him and I wish him a speedy recovery.

My brother wrecked on his Harley years ago. Took the skin off both legs. They had to scrub the gravel out of them. He was in so much pain.

Thank you Gemma. He's such a really nice guy. This makes me sick. :(

I'm sorry to hear this too, BW, sounds like he'll have a long and hard recovery. I cringe every time my kids or grandkids get on a motorcycle.

Sorry to hear that. I hope he will be OK, sure he is in a lot of pain right now. Sending a prayer, keep us posted!

I used to date a guy that owned a Harley Dealership. He could never get me to ride one. I hope he makes it he was already battling other health problems.

BW - Prayers and positive thoughts for you friend. And thank you for sharing with us.

A fellow Harley rider.

Thank you to everyone who sent good thoughts, energy or prayers his way. It's 3:24 am here & I can't sleep thinking about it. I just received this update from his sister, so when you read it you will know that he did need your good thoughts sent his way & I thank you all very much. This is what she said :

{Black and blue from head to toe and severe road rash. They said the back of his helmet was ground down almost to his skin! If he would have slid any farther he would have head injury. He rolled and then slid for a long ways. He broke his ankle, knee cap, dislocated shoulder, broken hip, fractured vertebraes, ruptured bladder and damaged a kidney . we are all very worried, need i say.We are staying at his house and I will stay here until he can come home and for longer if he needs help, which i think he will. My brother will have to go home tomorrow for work but hid wife is staying with me for awhile, and mother is here until wed. as she needs to be back home for medical reasons. He is still unconscious tho he opened his eyes 3 times today and pointed up a finger (guess lol!). so I know he can hear us and he knows what's going on. I will go tomorrow and tell him you care and wish him a speedy recovery. I will let you know when he is out of ICU.}

Thanks for the update BW!

My word, he surely racked himself up. I agree, that he will be needing help whenever he returns home. Good to hear the sister will be able to stay.

Sometimes when I get to this site I see his picture in that row of pictures above & I just tear up. I would tell you all who it is, but I don't know if he would want that & I'm trying to respect his right to privacy. His sister sent me more info on his condition this morning. I had to cut it short because for some reason I can't post the whole thing on here without being logged back out. Here it is:

He is not doing so well. Turns out his injuries were alot worse than I thought or alot worse than I was told. He had multiple chest injuries and I made the doctor write them down: flail chest (severeal broken ribs on one side) which caused lung laceration which caused hemothorax, and a partial aortic disruption due to trauma (from flail chest)., This is why they had him on a breathing machine and he is still on oxygen. Today they placed a stent in for the partial aortic disruption until they can do surgery when he is more stable. He lost alot of blood and I found out they used the blood from his internal bleeding to replace some of the lost blood. In other words, they drained the blood through a tube and put it in an IV, which is amazing that they can do that. They also had to drain fluid from the sac around his hear. I forget what it's called - paracardic sac? Also his foot is badly broken, not just his ankle and he has what they call "biker's arm" which is nerve trauma in his arm, which may be long lasting but not usually permanent . He was conscious today and talked a little but talking is very painful for him. He asked for a milkshake because his throat hurts so bad and I was going to go get one but the nurse said it had to be a popsickle. He's always hated popsickles but he ate most of it. he is on alot of medicine for severe pain and sleeps alot. so I guess he's not literally unconscious, he's just out of it. He was literally unconscious for I think it was 4 days, Ive lost count.

Bottom line is, he will need a long recovery time. And they want to do more surgeries

Thanks for the update BW. Whew, what a difficult road your friend has to travel. Positive thoughts for him, his family, and you. Hugs.
Yeah it's awful. I have such a low tolerance for pain the thought of being skinned all over by the pavement sends chills down me. Thank you Shali

I've been sending good healing vibes to your friend and here's a hug for you too. Glad to hear he's conscious and surrounded by so many who love him.
