Plymouth Rock, other monuments targeted with spray paint

Immature people look at vandalism as pranking. It's fun, a cute thing to do that might get them the attention of their peers. Psychologists might say it's because their Mother didn't give them enough attention when they were little.

Folks sure are confused today. Don't know who to blame but maybe the education system is part of the problem. In my country there are some people who are trying very hard to change history. I am not going to name any specific events but good guys are being now painted bad while bad guys are now being painted as good. Removing or defacing monuments does not really change history but some try. As for vandals what can I say? Just a bunch of kids who are angry because life is not being handed to them "on a silver platter". Just kids or young people who are finding out that if you want to go somewhere or do something you are going to have to get to work. LOL

The willful destruction of property, federal or state, in some instances, may be a very serious crime with very serious consequences, including prison time in a federal prison, if the property is that of the federal government.

It is also a destruction of history to some degree. You have to be a real bone head to do these types of things.

I had expected to see a huge rock, but it's not all that big. Of course, it has been broken up, put back together again, chipped away at and moved several times so only about 1/3 remains of the original rock.....IF it's the original rock at all. The settlers who landed there in 1620 never referred to it in any of their writings. In fact, the first time it was mentioned was in 1715, when it was referred to as "a great rock" and used as a point on the town boundaries.

If you visit the rock, you should also go to Plimoth Plantation (yep, that's spelled correctly). Very interesting.

We really don't know if Plymouth Rock isn't just any old rock. It's more folklore than anything. Can you remember the exact rock somebody stepped on, over a century ago? It's been dragged around, chipped away, broken in half, cemented back together, stolen, and buried twice. The rock does have symbolic value, but it depends on your politics as to what the rock symbolizes. This poor little rock continues to suffer from what we think it symbolizes.

We had some issues with younger tourists in Gettysburg being vandals. Thanks to another tourist, she took a picture of a vandal spray painting his street name on a monument of General Meade. We were able to I D him using face recognition technology to make an arrest.

I have a concern on that topic: a few years ago, in different parts of this city, 3 people I'd never seen before thought I was someone else. Although it wasn't clear whether they were all referring to the same individual, from the way they were talking it was somebody they were personally familiar with. It was creepy.
I went as far as to contact some cousins in other states to ask if we had any relatives in this area, and they said they didn't know of any.
When I was a child, some older relatives said everybody has an exact double somewhere.. but all I could think during these experiences was hoping whomever they mistook me for wasn't a criminal.

Face recognition software or, FRS, is used only to get an identity. Several times, we may get anywhere from 2-8 different matches. We then have to find them and do a background check. We can sometimes just use their fingerprints and run it through IAFIS to get a hit. Today, with DNA, it’s even easier to get the right individual. With DNA, using CODIS can make a match, even using touch DNA.

I can’t remember of a time when we arrested the wrong person using this procedure.

Well, that's good to know.

I cry. I honestly cry over the defamation and decretation of the architecture and the American monuments. Now not only the men of greatness in American history, but statues of angels and the Virgin Mary, are destroyed. This raises emotion in me, I can't even describe. The history of this great land is being swept away and being replaced by a Marxist society. Vandalism should come with a long prison sentence.
I know most of you are trying to make light of this but I'm deeply saddened.

I'm with you, Gaer….Yes I'm deeply saddened and I Cry very easy....I couldn't look when the vandals were knocking down precious
monuments....People that destroy should go to jail....I'm from a different generation and in my life time the only thing that was
worse was 9/11...And my parents leaving this world....They would be beside themselves....They went through poverty before I was born...
My Dad then joined the National Guard, He only had 1 good eye....So he couldn't go to war....But he stayed in his service till he retired
at 65 years old....He was my Hero.....Tears
