Pole pruner?

Max you get what you pay for, with your vast property:) I'de go for the best.
My son has a Stihl, been running for 2 & half years. He comes & does my place as well... cheers mate.

Not pole pruners Max, but the rural rel has bought chainsaws and equipment parts off the web and seems pretty chuffed with them. He gave up on paying arms and legs for Stihl stuff that doesn't perform or last any better than the cheapies.

It depends on how much use you get out of it. If you were a pro using it constantly 5/7 and could write it off to tax then you might go exy, but for casual work ??? He says if he needs to cut a bit of scrub and the $100 chainsaw lasts the distance to do it and then just hangs in the shed for months then it's a better deal than paying $800 for the same wall ornament.

So far so good anyway, he's got a few different sized chainsaws and crowed about 'em when he got them and haven't heard that they've died yet so looks good. I'll ask if there's any particular site he uses, but I don't really think so.

He's been busy putting the local ag dealer out of business by buying equip parts for busted tractors and farm gear off the web and fixing them himself, (and the neighbours.) He reckons they're the exact same parts down to the serial numbers and one tiny bit that the dealer wanted 149 bucks plus labour for, he got for 27 off the web. Go figure why businesses are going to the wall.

Up to you. Do you feel lucky??

Just been searching the web, there is a huge difference in price, like about $200 vs $1300 for stihl or husqvarna. probably only need it 3 days a year. hmmmmm:dunno:

The rel's out Max but I'll talk to him about it and get any info on where to look and who to 'trust'.... bwaaahaha eh? He might know someone who uses those pruners one of his neighbours has a macadamia plantation.

I used to have one of those pole chainsaw trimmers, I think it was an Echo, and it cost around $300 brand new, but that was not recently. I didn't have to use it a lot, just when I needed to take limbs down that were too high to reach otherwise. It worked really well, ran good, and was easy enough to start that I was able to do it myself with no problems.

The landlord loaned us his Stihl weedeater after my Husquevarna was stolen, and the Stihl wouldn't start easily, took it to the Stihl shop ( couldn't go to the regular repair shop for parts either), and even after they worked on it, it didn't run decently.
We took it back to the landlord to decide what to do with it, and I found a nice little Sears Craftsman on Craigslist instead, and it works perfectly for what we need.
So I am definitely not sold on Stihl as being worth the extra cost.

Any one using one of those gas-petrol powered pole pruner? One with a chainsaw attachment? No name brands on the web are just so much cheaper than Stihl, Husqvarna. Would save me a lot of time climbing up and down ladders with the chainsaw. prices seem to swing wildly between $250 to $1300.
http://www.crazysales.com.au/oregon-hand-held-33cc-pole-saw.html

The guys in the park here have been using one and it looks very easy to use, i am not sure what the brand is but will ask , i do know the chainsaw head is orange if that helps, i will get back to you.:hair:

The rel says the Macadamia man uses some other gizmo to prune so no help there. He says he gets stuff from Crazysales.com but otherwise where ever he can find it. For small stuff, drills, whippersnippers etc he said Ozito brand from Bunnings has been good value.
Sorry mate it's back to take your chances.

Ok thanks for the tip, i'm definitely leaning towards the crazy sales bargain at $200. past experience has been with a cheapie MTD hedge trimmer, half the price of stihl, its still going, starts easy after 10 years use, go figure.:dunno: I'm clearing lantana at the moment worst job eva, waiting for the tick bites to start itching, they always seem to jump onto me when i clear lantana..doh! I've been smothering myself with RID insect repellant, it seems to work at keeping the ticks off:eeew:

Interesting. Wonder is this site on that one? Because it vanishes with alarming regularity. Just gives me the old 404 finger and Seniorsforum.com totally vanishes from all searches. But. It seems to be more to do with Firefox than Telstra as I have to close FF down then reboot it and all is sweet and the site is suddenly 'found' again.

Might just repost this somewhere more applicable and see if anyone else has a problem with Firefox.

Good luck Max, especially with the ticks. :)

Oh and sniff the Lantana for me, love the smell of that when it's chopped up.

Oh ok, thanks Jillaroo, my photo site uses that akamai thingy, - its supposed to make stuff run faster, not slower. Doh! Telstra is blaming a 'third party' so it could be some kind of equipment failure in Akamai.

The he hollered his safety comment from afar: Use caution --- this from the Hypertensive Type A who generally goes balls to the wall without thought. He said the tree branches can come down on you really easy. The stuff we have to trim is right over barbed wire fence with a lot of thrashing on the other side, so trimming from the "safe" side generally isn't an option.

:lofl:
Brought to mind the battle scars of someone I know who took to a huge Bouganvillea with a chainsaw! Guess who won?

Thanks for tips, i can get a crazy sales one for $245, a ryobi from bunnings at $299, then into hyper space with the $1300 stihl and Huskqvarna. I'm still clearing lantana, worst weed eva. slow tiring work. But i'm still tick free, that RID insect spray stuff seems to work at keeping them off.

I have a "girly" :D tree pruner that I use often.. it's a Corona brand pruner that weighs about 7 lbs., and it does a great job for what it is. The reach extension is about 14' and it can take down some fairly large tree limbs. It's my favorite outdoor toy.
I was given a Homelite (?) electric pruner, that weighs maybe twice as much, and it might be great, but this 5'5", 145 lb. female cannot pick up the pruner and use it at the same time. I can pick up or move around a lot of weight by myself ... but up in the air, that one feels like I'm holding 40 lbs. over my head! Can't do it.
