Yes, that was the first thing I did when I got home. The website still says they are open from 7am to 11pm, 7 days/week. There is also a phone number - that no one answers at.

One pedestrian stopped suddenly to avoid being hit. He yelled at the driver.
But, it's only a matter of time before he becomes another news item about more serious hit & runs.

Did you get the name & address of that pedestrian. Sure would help you to prove your damage claim to your insurance company.

That's also why when selling a car privately, the title should be changed immediately.

What may be hard to prove is that the driver hit my deliberately. He'll say "My foot slipped off the brake."

No. It was a rather tense situation & I had to calm down after I got back in my car. I also debated getting out of my car because anyone crazy enough to hit someone's car deliberately is capable of anything.
As far as the damage, I'll get an estimate tomorrow, but it looks like the dent would be equal to or less than my deductible.

I was Military Police for over 20 years in the Navy. Retired in 1992. I had a choice to go into the Police Force locally. They lowered the standards because certain people couldn't pass the tests. Lowering the standards, carrying a weapon, no thank you. That made me decide to drive a truck for 16 years and collect a second retirement from the trucking company. They couldn't pay me enough now a days to be on the Police Force.

That's why my late husband quit the Federal Marshal's service: They lowered the standards!
 
Staffing police departments is becoming a problem. All the bad publicity the police have received over this BLM activity has resulted in a fairly large number of police leaving the force. Some cities have actually reduced their funding of their police. Unless the crime is fairly "major", it is probably becoming a lower priority. As tax revenues have declined, due to high unemployment, business closures, and online shopping, etc., many cities and towns are having trouble funding the police. Even things like the highway patrol are being impacted. These past few months I noticed an almost total lack of highway patrols, and things like radar speed traps. This, and all the frustrations caused by this virus, is leading to more aggressive and speeding drivers. About the Only ones who will benefit from this lack of police are the criminals...and I expect to see ever increasing crime rates. Gun sales have soared in recent months as more people are fearing they may have to defend themselves.

For many years, most applicants for Federal white collar jobs at GS-5 level and above had to pass the Federal Service Entrance Exam (FSEE). Sometime in the 70's in the name of inclusiveness, it was determined that the test was unfair to certain demographic groups and so the test was "modified." I don't recall the full name of the test but the acronym was PACE. Unfortunately, the PACE didn't achieve what was expected and further "modifications" were effectuated, and, then, testing quietly disappeared.

In the 80's new hires, college grads, entered the service but a significant no. were unable to write a cogent paragraph. Their work was replete with run-on sentences and even basic punctuation and style that you learned in elementary school were omitted.

Yes, According to my late husband, when they hired disadvantaged illiterates, all height and weight requirements abolished, modified the stringent essentials, it was time to get out.

I've been hearing the phrase 'defund the police' but hadn't looked into it until this comment provided some motivation. It sounds like it is not about getting rid of police that deal with violent crime, it is about defunding some of the police budget and reinvesting it toward things like mental health officers etc. I think that would be an awesome idea. When I used to do foster care there was a time I called 911 because an 11 yr lit a match and threatened to set herself on fire. At least FOUR armed officers showed up, including one with a police dog. Poor kid was chased around the house and handcuffed. So if defund the police means to respond to those type of calls with maybe two regular police and one mental health trained officer, I'd consider that a good change.
And then there was the time my 16 yr old new-driver daughter illegally and stupidly at 1 AM (after the curfew for 16 yr old drivers) drove home in the rain and tried to text simultaneously (OMG no matter how many times teens are told things it just doesn't make it into their brains) and accidentally wiped out a nest of mailboxes. Next day multiple police and handcuffs. Gee whiz. Turns out there is a law that if you run over someone's mailbox you are supposed to immediately go tell them (as opposed to our plan of waiting til the weekend, my bad, was worn out overworked single mom). I don't think a 16 yr old should be going up to a strangers house at 1 AM though. Even as a homeowner I don't think I'd want anyone showing up at my door at 1 AM. I really think for mailboxes when the police know the culprit's address it would make more sense to just send a ticket or something.

Ha, I used to live in a rural-ish area in Colorado and the Californians arrived. People complained about them but it turned out great, we got a bigger better library, a community center, a senior center, better quality government and (unfortunately not until after I had moved away) a hospital of our very own (versus having to go to Denver). I now LOVE those Californians. I am always wishing they'd move to Nebraska where I live now.

Honeynut, Have you not watched the news in the past year? Did you miss the violence, the riots?
When you REALLY NEED the police,, who will you call? If a deranged man breaks into your home and threatens to kill you, who will you call? Are you going to call a social worker to ask the invader how he feels?

The nearby city I think had some relatively minor property damage due to a few hotheads, plus one murder committed by an anti-BLM person who subsequently committed suicide which felt like justice since the city police didn't want to charge the person with murder even though that person went armed into an unarmed demonstration and stirred up trouble that resulted in them killing an unarmed person in 'self-defense' (which at that point was self defense but would have been totally preventable if they hadn't started the fight).
My only personal experience was a few years before when a local politician came to town and a half dozen of us had a protest outside the building, and three young men who came out of a bar across the street and got in their pickup then decided to get back out to come give us trouble, but luckily the cop assigned to the politician barked at them to get back in their truck and they did.
At the protests I've gone to over the years, the police were also protecting the rights of the protestors. But maybe my experience is because of 'white privilege'.

If a deranged man breaks into my home & threatens to kill me, I'm smart enough to know that it is very unlikely that police will get here in a few seconds - which is as quickly as needed to prevent injury or death. They rarely do, unless they happen to be right outside my house. I live in the real world. Police arrive in time to call the coroner & take a report. It's not their fault; they can't be everywhere.
Saving my life & my loved ones lives in that situation is MY job & I'm equipped to do it.

I went to the police station to file a report & there is a sign on the door: "Police Station Closed." I thought it was a joke; I've never heard of a closed police station.
Another sign says "Scan bar code on your phone or call to make a report." When I called, a recording says the police station is open until 11:00pm 7 days/week & leave a message. Well, it isn't; I was there at 3:30pm. I left a message.
What a time to need police for something really serious.
