A set of police shootings late Friday night in Philadelphia and Fort Worth. In a Philadelphia a gunman ambushed an officer in her car then went on a rampage in the neighborhood at one point taking a hostage before he was shot and killed. A second police officer was wounded. One civilian was killed several others wounded.

In Fort Worth police responded to a suicide before being shot approaching the suspect who was eventually found dead by the SWAT team in a shed. A victim was found shot when the police arrived.

A note was found in Philadelphia where the suspect stated his hatred for police and a parole officer.

In 1987, I was assigned to guard the Governor of Pennsylvania, who had just been sworn in a few days earlier. We were in the Capitol taking care of some business and was told that Budd Dwyer, the state treasurer was resigning on TV. (Long story, but I encourage you to Google his name and read it.) Shortly after we had entered the office where he was holding a press conference, his last words were something like, "I hope that this does not offend anyone." At that point, he pulled a .357 pistol out of a paper bag, put it in his mouth and pulled the trigger. He had chosen his way and date to go. Here is a short clip from YouTube that shows everything up and until he put the gun in his mouth. I believe there is a clip on YouTube that shows the rest of his actions for those that want to see someone ending their life. Also, it had snowed the night before and the kids were out of school and some had seen this on TV.

Update

In Philadelphia the shooter was found to have a lengthy criminal record including arrests and jail time. Hence the note stating his hatred of police and a parole officer.

In Fort Worth the shooter who apparently killed himself after shooting at officers and being confronted by a SWAT team was the son of the shooting victim. He too had a criminal history. 55 year old son apparently killed his 80 plus year old father.
