I am referring to what I watch which is NBC, ABC, and CBS in this poll. I get the antenna based news.

Take the poll to see how you feel about what they broadcast.

I would have liked to make more than one choice but then that's what the comments section is for....

I remember in the early 50's when TV news was just the facts... (who, what, when and where ).

Now we get a few seconds of that and minutes of 'why', based on how the talking head delivering the news feels or which way the network they work for is leaning.

The mainstream media, NBC, ABC and CBS does not report all the news all the time. Only a 20 second segment on CBS reported that 400,000 illegals were preparing to enter the U.S. These people have not been tested or vaccinated for COVID. They come here illegally and receive some really nice benefits all at taxpayer’s expense. Once entered and registered, they are sent to other states to take up residence. They do not have to mask-up or be vaccinated like us citizens.

These illegals will come from any country, so long as they pay their way to our border. I find this both disgusting and revolting. I welcome anyone from any country, if they come here according to our laws.

Local news is almost all fluff. It's 10 minutes of commercials, 10 minutes of weather, a few minutes of chit-chat, and then a few headlines.

World news is a little better, but they almost never give the full story. Like they'll have a story about a kid who brings a gun to school and kills a classmate, but they don't say how he got the gun. Perhaps they don't know at that point, but it's an important element of the story.

I normally tune in to CBS news three times each day.

The news usually doesn’t amount to much.

I see lots of repetitive file footage and many promotional pieces or advertising plugs disguised as news.

I also see the local news attempting to cover national or world news with recorded news clips.

It also annoys me more and when the reporters attempt to analyze the news or include their personal opinions in the reporting.

The way we receive our news and information has changed so much that the news is more of a magazine style fluff piece than a source of hard news.

Other than that it’s fine. 😊

There is a lack of in depth information on these news sites. More or less like headline news. Of course it was that way eons ago. Just a straight reading of the days events and some weather. End of news. A tad more drawn out today as there are a couple of news readers and bantering with the weather and sports persons. Thankfully, they are not opinionated for the most part as is the cable news.

Don't really see a line I can check. I do watch the news, most of the majors, but am realistic about it. The objective of the channels are to maximize viewership so they can make more money selling adds. And I take most of it with a few grains of salt. So everything certainly is not helpful, but some of it is, not most of it, but some.
Well, that saved me alot of keystrokes

Although not the US, I substituted our 3 main stations - CBC, CTV & Global to see how I’d answer. It would be very similar to @Alligatorob. There’s too much click bait and unbalanced info, IMO. Even still, it’s better than being without the news.

I often wonder if I'm still better off with the news.

Yes, because if you’re talking to someone that doesn’t follow the news, it shows.

Too much news can be depressing so I’ve limited myself.
Who cares if it shows or not? I'm not so concerned about what others think of me any longer, pardon me. Good to limit yourself if you need to but I want to shut it off and keep it off.

Although 3 of the choices seemed mostly true:
While they post helpful news, it widely spreads much fear.
They post mostly depression causing news.
They post helpful things regardless of the fear and depression it causes.
...I ended up choosing "They post mostly depression causing news. "

Seriously, it just seems like they want to drive the viewers completely out of their minds. On the "upside", when they're not dwelling on the absolute horrors of being alive, they're presenting a bunch of mindless show biz fluff that may actually make me nauseous, if I weren't quite so quick with the channel changer.

I avoid the political opinion stations like FOX or MSNBC, otherwise, I would surely either be suicidal or homicidal by now.

I don’t watch TV news. I get what I need to know from my friends still at the Pentagon. I do watch local affiliate stations to get local news.

How many people are aware of the 400,000 illegals that have formed a caravan in Panama and are coming to our border?
How many people know that Chris Cuomo is being sued for sexual harassment?
How many people know that a few FBI agents took part in the charge on the Capitol on 1/6?
How many people know that members of Congress were fully aware that no one was whipped at the Texas border, but pushed that narrative to incite the people?
How many people know that VP Harris gave a dissertation to a group of students that suggested the U.S. should cut relations with Israel?
How many people know that because of the Durham Report, one of H. Clinton’s attorneys has been indicted in the Russiangate scam with more indictments to come?
And the list goes on.

It appears to me that more and more media outlets are reporting news based on what their listeners seem to want to hear. As we have an increasing number of media outlets this is making the various channels more focused on one point of view or another. Media has always been biased, but it seems to me there was a time the bias was less obvious, less blatant.

Also with more outlets they each probably have less funding to spend on real reporting and research, so cheaper simplistic themed stories win out.

Aren't most stations more political opinion than news, or at least the news is presented with some political slant? For example I watch CNN and believe that is very true of them.

Maybe I am just getting old, doesn't the older generation always think things are going to hell?
