So, how much do you let others opinions effect you? Is their opinion important to you or do you just let it blow off? Does it depend on the situation and how much? Please take the poll. This should be interesting. Feel free to comment on what you let effect you and what you don't and whatever else comes into play.

Not at all. I'm finally at a place in my life where mine is the only opinion that matters. (And I answered on the basis of "outsiders' opinions". An exception would be important decisions that my husband and I should make together.)

I generally try to take my wife's opinions seriously, and sometimes the kids/grandkids, also. However, the rest of the population matters little to me. I just try to behave in a responsible manner, and be presentable when out in public, and if that isn't good enough, so be it.

I voted 'other' because none of the other answers really fit for me. It would matter what the opinion was about, and if it was coming from a knowledgeable or experienced person, and honest person and one who was stable and not flighty.

Everyone has an opinion, and some to me are more valuable than others. For example, a person who just spouts off opinions on everything without giving any real thought or consideration, their opinion would mean little to me. People who give an honest, thoughtful opinion, would definitely be a priority in my consideration of their views. My husband's opinions mean a lot to me, because he's smart, honest and speaks from the heart and will give true reasons as to why he holds that particular opinion on something.

It has been my experience that most people don't share their opinions of me with me.

Most people talk behind my back and then there are always one or two that feel the need to come running to share the conversation with me.

The people that come running are the ones that concern me the most! :):playful::eek:nthego:

I always give the comments some thought and I always move on with my life, what else can I do.

It all depends on the credibility and how knowledgeable I believe that the other person is with regard to what is being discussed. I know that I don’t know all there is to know about everything, so I have to rely on others from time to time to keep me straight.

It depends on who and the circumstances. In business, you have to care about the opinions of others. Being respected is a good thing too. If it's just inconsequential matters, then the opinions of others would not faze me. My family's opinions matter, friends and BF too. Diplomacy is never a bad thing.

I agree with Chic -- it very much depends on who and the circumstances. If I see a professional about something -- i.e., my doctor or financial guy or lawyer -- I value their opinions more than opinions from some random person. If we're talking about something no one can really know the answer to -- such as religion or aliens or something -- my opinion is as good as anybody else's.

I answered 'somewhat' and here's why.

I like to offer my opinions in articles that allow it. Sometimes I have a certain opinion but then after reading other poster's opinions I see THEIR reasoning and it makes sense to me. I like to believe that I'm open minded and I think that proves it to me.

And you can be sure that those same people will be the first to relay your comments to the ones you talked to them about. Like you, I never trust those eager gossipers.

I chose "other." It really depends on the situation, and the person/people involved. In business, I certainly care what people think about the quality of the work I do: My income depends on satisfying my customers. In my personal life, I really don't care what people think of me, except for my family and gf. In general, I like to think that most people consider me a relatively nice guy, but I know that you can't please all of the people, all of the time! I don't lose sleep over that.

Cool.

Makes good sense~

I chose somewhat because it really does depend on who it is.....

I do think about what some family members think of me...not all.

Outside the family not so much....

I chose other. Depends on what it is, more than once I've learned something that I hadn't considered.

I believe this is very true. I think of these aspects, too.

I picked other, it was nearly "Not at all", but I don't
like the way some people say bad or vitriolic things
about somebody that they have never ever met or
will ever meet.

They don't know that person so why the badness?

Mike.

Well, first of all, I have a gigantic sense of humor that some folks definitely don't like. Many of those folks being Seniors. My wife loves it though.

Secondly, wife and I have gotten "looks", not speech, when we had our Western attire on when we flew to Colorado from here in Jacksonville. The "looks" are like them saying, "you really don't live here in Jacksonville, Florida do you?" Here I can't talk about farming, ranching, rodeo. People here don't have a clue what I'm talking about.

Heck, we don't get any comments about what we like, from family members, because they know better to say anything. Our lives are totally different from our families.

Actually, we like living in an area where folks don't look at us weird from wearing Western attire or for me talking about farming, ranching and rodeo. Of course that would be Colorado...……..where we really didn't have a problem wearing Western attire. Sure didn't get the "looks" like we would here.

There are plenty of cowboys, ranches, and rodeos in Florida. I guess you've never been to Kissimmee or Wauchula.
