Pope Francis General Audience

The Senior Forums Administration https://www.seniorforums.com/members/matrix.1 wants religious topics to be discussed in this Forum.

Escorting my devoted Catholic wife, we participated in Pope Francis' weekly general audience in the Vatican's "Paul VI Audience Hall" (5,000 seats?) on August 12, 2015. It was a profound religious experience. We had previously participated in Pope John Paul II general audience in 1990, and Pope Benedict XVI general audience in 2010. Here are a few pictures from visiting the Vatican in 2015.

We were in the tiny cupola at the very pinnacle of the San Peter’s Basilica. The actual dome has two walls, and you ascent the very narrow staircase between the inner and outer walls of the dome. The first picture is the view from the very top, and at the end of the street you can see (a) the Tiber River, and (b) on the left the ancient Roman Sant'Angelo Castle.

When we were in Rome we went to the Vatican, saw the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica and many other historic beautiful buildings. Rome is a beautiful city!!

1967. My sister and I are standing outside St. Peters, unable to get in because an audience was about to begin.

Just then an annoyed man bustles up, snarls "You people! Why do you keep losing your badges? After this, I'm not giving you any more!", gives us badges and hustles us along with the group we were standing next to into the cathedral.

So that's how two clueless Protestant teenage girls attended a Papal audience and got blessed. We got special commemorative holy medals, too, that I gave to my very, very Catholic sister-in-law a few years later. I don't think she's ever forgiven me to this day for getting to attend one.

I need to find a documentary on the Sistine Chapel. I was just browsing the internet ... there are many paintings on the ceiling. Looks fantastic.

We were in Paris over the Christmas of 1999. The New Year's Party into the year 2000 was fabulous. Just as impressive was the midnight mass that we attended at The Notre-Dame Cathedral on Christmas Eve. My photos are all on celluloid, these few pics I have 'borrowed' from the web.notre-dame1.jpg
