Portable transistor pocket radio-with one ear plug

My Sony Walkman died years ago. I actually have a mini transistor radio for emergencies. I don't even know it there's an earphone jack. I imagine there is. Last time I checked (years ago), it worked. If I was listening to music, I'd have to use both ear buds. Listening in mono would make me crazy.

My transistor radio wasn't a well-knownOIP.jpg brand. I got it at Ames Discount store, so it was a no-name Japanese import, like the pic. I think mine was red. The radio could pick up 3 or 4 stations, depending on which you pointed it. At least, it's crummy tiny speaker played 'rock n roll', and not Doris Day songs. As a teen in the 60s, what else could you ask out of life?

I remember there was a way to improve your transistor radio with a Radio Shack or Heath Kit component. Come on guys, help me out here. Not tubes, of course, but something else. What were they called? Was it the number of transisters themselves that could be increased or was it something else?

In the late '70s, early '80s we'd occasionally take in a Dodgers game at Chavez Ravine in L.A. The great Vin Scully was so popular that the majority of the crowd brought transistor radios with them, all tuned to his radio broadcast of the game. So many people participated that you didn't need your own radio. You could hear Scully's coverage anywhere in the stadium

As SquattingDog said, Fred Allen was also wonderful. Personal nostalgic favorite? Bob Prince of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Well they do sill sell a number of these. No power, but they can be tuned to a station and then pick up more signal they re-radiate near your receiver.

I had a crystal set, .....
Crystals! That's what I was thinking about! Thank you, OG. (y)

I had one of those when I was in the Navy. It would not play inside the ship, I had to go out on deck to listen to it.
Years later I used to play Spanish lessons on my walkman.
