Possible Opportunity For Your Grandchildren

I don't know if anyone would be interested in the following ad, but I thought that I would post it anyway. I belong to a pilot's forum and today when I received my monthly edition, there was an ad seeking candidates for new ATCs or Air Traffic Controllers. This is an exciting opportunity with fantastic pay and benefits. I know that there are several openings in the aviation industry for ATCs, pilots, F/A (Flight Attendants), all the way down to baggage handlers and reservationists, plus many more positions. If any of your Grandchildren live near a big city international airport, their chances of being hired into an aviation job are pretty good as there are many, many open positions. I hope that I am not violating any of SFs TOS. If I am, please remove my post. Thanks.

My SIL will start his training for commercial pilot next month. My Granddaughter will be looking into flight attendant son..

Good for them, Ken. There are many times when I wish that I was just starting my career in aviation. Aviation has made some huge strides in safety and avionics since I started my career. Back then, all of our instruments were analog compared to today where now they are all digital. There is no more guessing when setting up a flight plan or the autopilot. Even the onboard computers have been updated, so that they are very easy to input information.

As for becoming a F/A, I would recommend trying to sign on with a major airline, rather than a low fare carrier. Money and benefits are, for the most part, better. United , Delta or American would be the better choice, although I have spoken with F/As from Southwest that say they have no complaints with their wages and benefits. I think the biggest complaint with the F/As is that they don't make a lot of money for the first few years, but the travel opportunities for a young and single person are unimaginable. Most F/As when they sign on are assigned to short hops and/or domestic flights. Once they build seniority, they can bid on International routes and later in their career, many F/As will bid back down and stay closer to home by flying only domestic routes.

I wish them the best of luck.

F/A? Whoa! Breathing that foul, cabin air, all flight long, day in, day out? Putting up with the increasingly rude, unruly passengers who believe in "me first?" No way I'd want my grandkids to endure that, even if the pay was great.

The cabin air on a jet passenger plane is healthier than most living rooms. Boeing has stated that most jets cabin is 94-99% free of airborne microbes. The air travel through not just one, but additional filters as it is cycled and recycled.
Just saying.

I'll keep this in mind for my grandson for the future. Back when President Reagan fired the ATC'ers I went to a post office to take the exam. The proctor told us that nobody would finish answering all of the questions, but do our best in the time allotted in each section. I recall scoring a 92 on the test which was high enough to earn me an interview. But later I learned that I was too old after a law was passed.

The test was stressful and probably a lot like the job. I loved trying to figure out what to tell Plane A traveling at 1,000 mph SW at 10,000 feet, if Plane B was traveling at 800 mph NE at 15,000 feet, and Plane C was traveling at 600 mph SE at 20,000 feet. Gained respect for the profession.

LOL! I'm sure BOEING has stated that! Thing is, my nose knows when it smells very odd and, I'm sure, bad for your health odors in the airplane.
